i don't know, but i really don't like the regard the moves have been made in. it's coming off to me as stevens getting his way with the club, which is...i can't even think of a word...repulsive? to think about.

Holmgren took a chance on Alberts; if he isn't working out and he's become dead weight, the fact that he was recently acquired shouldn't factor into the decision to waive or trade him. Nor should it be relevant that the Flyers made a trade for nothing. The Flyers needed to make a move for a defenseman.

I'm not suggesting that Alberts should have been the one moved. If he does become expendable (as the 8th/9th defenseman), he should be let go, though.

Seems that way to me too. I'm really starting to think he has some bad blackmail on Homer.

This is an organization that seldom likes to admit mistakes. Waiving Alberts would do just that. You forget how stubborn these guys are.

His game is perfectly suited for the AHL; I believe he'd be a complete fish out of water in the NHL.

The play of Alberts has improved since some of his nightmare performances when he first got here. He hasn't been great or anything, but for the most part...he has been better.

He brings a greater physical presence than Kukks, and is probably slightly better on the PK...although he doesn't offer quite the same knack for shot-blocking.

Kukks has a lower cap hit though, and I don't think there's a big difference between playing him or Alberts. I would've preferred them waiving Alberts rather than Kukks...but it's not the end of the world.

I'm just looking forward to not having them out there together.

Kukks-someone else....fine
Alberts-someone else....fine
Kukks-Alberts....no thank you

i really feel like jones is the one who'll be gone. how they get him the playing time for him to get traded though, i don't know. maybe it's just wishful thinking.

Fair enough. In Alberts' case, though, it was a forced acquisition; it wasn't a mistake to get him, nor would it necessarily be a mistake to waive him if he became expendable. Alberts was never going to crack the top 4 in Philly and there are plenty of guys who can fill a third pairing role.

Same here, although I think if Jones doesn't get traded, Parent will probably be sent to Phantoms for the rest of the year. Hope I'm wrong, but something tells me that Stevens loves his ****** defenseman a bit too much.

well I dont think it will be an issue if they had to do it. Come late December there will be no place for Alberts when Parent and Jones are back. The Flyers didnt have a problem trading Jim Vandermeer who was John Stevens boy. So we have to eat a 4th rounder and some ECHL scrub. no big deal

It was clearly a mistake to trade for him. He's been terrible and his bloated contract forced the hand of the GM to waive another player. We didn't trade for Alberts to take the place of someone else. This is why you have a farm system, and if guys like Syvret and Guenin are not trustworthy enough to get spot callups, they shouldn't be in the organization.

Kukkonen scheduled to play center tonight, per the Flyers' site:

Thursday, November 13

1:32 p.m.
With Danny Briere hurt and Riley Cote still nursing an injury, Flyers head coach John Stevens will shift defenseman Lasse Kukkonen to center for tonight's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins (7:30 p.m., Comcast SportsNet). Philadelphia held an optional skate today at Mellon Arena in preparation for the game.

"With the amount of call-ups we've had already, we're a little restricted there. We'll use the guys that we have here," said the head coach. "If he gives us a good two or three shifts a period, I think it would be invaluable."

Kukkonen has admittedly not played center since he was a teenager, he said, but already has an idea how to handle the change.

"I'll let [Arron Asham] and [Josh Gratton] go and do the forecheck, and I'll try and be the third guy high. Just keep it simple."

Stupid question, but does this mean that he cannot play tonight? Do we have to fly a phantom to pittsburgh then? Who would it be?
