rivalry (Mod: with Sens?)

I was having arguments with sens fans the other day and they all thought there was a rivalry going on between us and them. I just don't see it!!

They seem to hate us but I really don't care about them or their team. Yet they seem to hate us with passion. I can see the rivalry with Boston and Toronto but Ottawa??? sorry.

I'd like to know what you guys think...

Bad feelings between fans of various teams seems to be intensified on these boards. I guess because we're all anonymous and get to say things we wouldn't say to someone's face without the consequences.

Nah, they were one of the best fanbases here.

And then last year happened. Never knew why so many turned that bitter against us.

Who are these "Sens" you speak of? And why should I care?

The Sens havent't been around long enough for me to care. I'm not trying to be mean or aggresive, and I'm not even that old. But for me, the Habs' rivals are the Bruins, the Leafs, even the Sabres. I grew up with the Prince of Wales conference Adams division of the Habs, the Nordiques, the Whalers, the Sabres and the Bruins. The rivalry with the Leafs is more about Toronto vs. Montréal than anything else, wich is what makes it so special in the first place. There's not a lot of people in Ottawa who are lifelong fans of the Sens. The only ones are too young to matter. Everyone else was either a Habs or a Leafs fans who changed their allegiance. That's all fine and it doesn't make them lesser fans, but as far as rivalry goes, the Sens are still irrelevant for me.

Outside of trash like Ruutu and Neil I dont give a damn about their team but I enjoy watching them lose because their fans deserve no better.

Almost all fans on the Sens board seemed to hate the Habs with a passion. They seemed to be jealous with the Habs. They realized that the good time is over for them. What they got right now is a mediocre team.

I havea good time on their board, they really hate us. I think there's a very young contingent there and so very easily goaded into threadjacking hijinks.

It's not that I go there to troll, it's just that you can make a totally relevent post that goes against the grain, and even if some in the thread are saying just what you are, you will get flamed immediately - just for being Habs fan.

I've pretty sure we're not supposed to post bad things about a fanbase, though, and I'm sure I've said enough things worthy of infraction for one day, so I'll leave it at that.

I live in the city and realize how pathetic they are. When I lived in Leaf country I didn't really mind them.

Then there are a few posters who are idiots on their boards too, but just a few, like us. I like Nyquil, he's a good one. But other than him most piss me off.

Like you said they turned bad last year when the Habs were better. They just got jealous really quickly, realized their door is closing while ours is just opening.

Well... last game vs them at Bell centre, Sens-Habs fans were throwing beers at each other, and their was a brawl with security. Maybe a rivalry is starting to build. But I emphasize the word "starting"...it doesn't reach the hatred level we see with Toronto or Boston...yet.

I hate the sens, but I wouldn't cal what we have, a rivalry. Apart from hf sens fans that imo are also very invisible, there isn't much show of rivalry.

Now what we have with the laffs and b's, that's a rivalry.

Ever think it just might have something to do with the way the Hab fanbase started acting last year??? Maybe, just maybe??

Nah...I'm sure it was just something in the water in Ottawa...

Actually it does. I lived in Ottawa from 1996 to 2001. I have never met a dumber collection of Sports fans that are Spartans fans. Believe it or not, to get my sanity back, I had to move into Leafs country.

I love it.

Here's an interesting tidbit.

I missed the game last night because my wonderful girlfriend got tickets from work to see the Sens vs the Isles. Why turn down live hockey? So I went and enjoyed myself even though it was a boring game. I was hoping that the great "House That Randy Cunneyworth Built" would provide me with information on the Habs game.

Oh boy did it ever.

The only NHL highlights and score they showed that game were of Boston and Montreal. In fact the only highlights they showed were of Boston scoring on Montreal and Lucic handing Komisarek a beating. The crowd went nuts (they were losing to the Isles at the time too).

Just goes to show you the huge inferiority complex both the Sens fanbase and the franchise have with the Habs.

Small doggie syndrome. It's so obvious, especially with that lame unfunny sarcasm on the Sens board.

Unlike Leafs and Bruins fans, you can't have intelligent discussions about hockey with Sens fans on HFBoards. I read their board every now and then for a good laugh, but I don't bother posting. Once they see a Hab player in your avi, on the offensive they go.

I don't really like team either. Spezza is a heartless pansy and Ruutu's a *******.

I'm a Sens fan and I wouldn't mind kicking out a lot of newbie members who are Sens fans and go back to how it was like 2 -3 years ago when the Sens board didn't have a reputation for being whiny *****es. But last year the hatred for the Habs really intensified over there because a lot of Habs fans would come over after every game against the Habs (whether it was a win or a loss for us) and troll the hell out of our game day threads.

I think a lot of Sens fans are to be blamed (which is why I wouldn't mind purging like 90% of the Sens board) but I think some Habs fans who like to incite Sens fans are to be blamed as well.

There really isn't much of a rivalry between the Sens and Habs because we haven't been "good" teams at the same time. When we were rocking and rolling, you guys weren't having the best of years and now it's your turn and we may end up missing the playoffs. I imagine there will be real intensity and not just booing for the sake of booing when both teams are on the same level.
