Carbonneau isn't doing a good job of motivating this club. The Habs need someone who is going to really push the players. Carbonneau seems too much of a nice to me. Plus he is too inexperienced to have been hired. kovalev and a bunch others could use a good swift kick in the arse to get them going on a more consistent basis. It's not just Kovalev who's floating around. Its 90% of the team.

Cant wait for Denis to wear the Habs jersey... and for Lapierre to be promoted as our 2nd line C...

that will be great!!!

He used his linemates and tried hard in 95% of the games. This year it's all about the long, low-percentage pass, the puck-ragging and the shots on poor targets. His play is bringing Plekanec and Andrei down because they either don't get the puck, or they get it when there's no scoring chance available.

I like Kovalev. I find him a pretty thrilling player to watch when he's on. But we know Gainey's closely evaluating everyone who's up for new contracts. If Kovalev is proceeding to have a season like the one two years ago, rather than last year, I can see Gainey getting pretty tired of his play and deciding not to offer him a new deal. Carbonneau's already using Kovalev in a diminished role. Even so, right now, Kovalev's value is still high based on last year's performance. Should Gainey trade him in for a fourth D, then bring in someone like Sundin up front?
I'd trade Kovalev if he was a salary move in a Kovalchuk type acquistion. Then the other team could retrade Kovalev for whatever....#1 pick? Kovalev and 3 youngsters for Kovalchuk(Latendresse, O'Bryne, +)

No kidding. The Bruins were playing like it was game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals and the Habs weren't even close to matching them.

You can point fingers all day but in the end the Bruins were the better team.

If a trade involving Kovalev +pick or roster player (ie:Lats) for Kovalchuk happened, I wouldn't mind at all, or even for Semin.

Kovalev is a fantastic player but he does hog the puck to much and isn't explosive anymore. I have nothing against him but his time is up at the ripe old age of 35.
Why does Atlanta want Kovalev... a 36 year old UFA to be...

If Kovalchuk is moved it will be for young players/prospects/picks.

AS for your Semin Suggestion ... of course any team would like the NHL's leading scorer.... I wonder if Washington would throw in Ovechkin and Green with that package too... Backstrom too.... lets get them all

Semin+ Ovechkin + Green + Backstrom for Ryder, Halak, and a second!! YES we can.

I wonder what boston wants for Ryder in this three way trade

When building a team for the playoffs it's always a good thing to trade away your playoff performers!

Should know that by now!!!

I never made any mention of moving up Lapierre to 2nd C, he's no better then a 4th liner at very best. I had a vision of :

Higgins Koivu Tanguay
Kovalchuk Lang Kovalev

Then building two in your face lines like:

Begin Chipchura Kostopoulos
Laraque Lapierre Stewart

Komiserek (not injured) Markov
Hainsey Hamerlik
O'Byrne Gorges Boullion

Price / Denis

I see, we replace our C on pace for a 65/70 pts season by a rookie... a SLOW and DEFENSIVE player at that...

great!

Trade Kovalev.. Listen to some of you.

He's had his fair share of bad games this year, but he had them last year too guys.

Kovalev isn't the type of guy that shows up in 10 out of 10 games, and we've always known this.

I still think he'll finish with 25+G/70+PTS. Anyone want to take a wager on that?

There's nothing wrong with that. Those 2 bottom lines actually bring grit and the 2 offensive lines well they're nothing short of amazing. As for our D they probably gain 10 spots on the best D's in the league with just the acquisition of Hainsey. (and the deduction of O'Byrne)

Forgive me if i'm wrong but doesnt Kovalev have 12 points in 14 games?? I donno, to me that doesnt seem too bad. I agree he doesnt seem to be where he was at last season, but Plekanec, Sergei and Andrei havent been their best either...

Maybe we can trade some more players to get Grabovski back while we are at it.

We should probably trade Tanguay back to Calgary for draft pick, he's useless.

Beaker... buddy... I haven't missed a minute of a game this season.

So we're 9-3-2... that's not the point... how have we played this year.

WE have only played 2 games out of 14 games with any type of consistant effort! Think about that for a minute!

we have absolutely stunk against Columbus, Toronto, Boston, Anahiem and the NYI for 40 minutes (I drove 2 hours to see that game by the way).

This team is talented...everyone knows that, but there is a lack of depth on D and we do have depth at the forward position.

With guys we need to sign in the offseason, moving Kovy makes sense now; we can get some value for him.

This is not a knee jerk reaction to a couple of bad games, it's whether this team is built for a legitimate cup run!

Maybe instead of saying that some of us are overreating, can you see that some of you actually have a false sense of reality because of a record that doesn't reflect our play!
