Shootout or Tie?

If the game is still tied after 5 minute of 4-4 overtime. Would you rather have the shootout to decide the outcome of the game or would you rather call it a tie?

IMO, shootouts have gotten old because they happen way too often. I don't mind if they stay in the game, so long as they're a novelty. There should be 10 minute overtimes, IMO, maybe with the last 5 minutes as 3-on-3 (which purists may not like, but still 3-on-3 is more like traditional hockey than a shootout).

Beyond that, I might prefer there to be ties. But if there's a shootout, I don't mind that much, because the number of shootouts should decrease drastically.

I prefer the shootout, as I feel it's more exciting.

But I still hate those loser points they hand out.

Agreed. I'd argue that there are a lot of teams out there that would still go for it in OT in order to avoid the crapshoot that is the shootout.

With the current points system, then I prefer the tie.

However, if they brought in another points system, then I'd go with the shootout.

I Pick Tie over shootout, but i think they should make it a 10 minute overtime period instead of 5. We'd see many more overtime goals.

Shootout over a tie every day of the week. I like that there is a winner after every game, and the losing team still gets the point as if it was a tie so win-win.

Shoot-out, since there's no other. A shoot-out's not the best way to end a game, but a tie is the worst.

I've come to accept that shoot-out, but not to prefer it.

Shootout, but I wish they'd get rid of loser-points for OT and SO. You just shouldn't get points when you lose.

W - 2pts
L / OT / SO - 0pts

I agree. Ideally, I would like 10 minutes of 4 on 4, followed by 5 minutes of 3 on 3, then a shootout. Shootouts would be incredibly rare, yet exciting if that were the case. Don't think the TV networks would go for it, though. Even 10 minutes of 4 on 4, or 5 of 4 on 4 and 5 of 3 on 3 would be a huge improvement.

I think they should take away the loser point, and add 5 minutes of OT. If the point system does not change I would rather have a tie any day of the week. I don't think a team should be awarded 2/1 point(s) just because they have 3 players who are better/worse than the other team 3 players.

I feel this way because sometimes teams can make the playoffs based on the shoot out alone. Remember the shoot out record of Edmonton last year, what if they had made the playoffs? What about Dallas(?) the year before? A team should never be able to make the playoffs because there shootout record is 10-1. (or something like that)

Shootout.

I don't like that they decide the game on a skills competition in the ultimate team sport, but it's exciting, and nobody likes ties.

Now, if it was all up to me, we'd have a 20 minute OT, and then the SO. Then, teams would have more of a chance to "properly" win.

Not only would I rather see ties, I'd actually rather see them drop OT as well (unless they get rid of the OTL point).

Better than getting a point by "surviving" regulation.
