Alexei Kovalev with a late elbow on Simon Gagne

In the Flyers-Habs game. Gagne had gotten rid of the puck and Kovalev came in with a late elbow to the head. May be worthy of a 1-3 game suspension, and should certainly be looked at by the league, and it should've been called a penalty.

Edit: Plekanec just hit Jared Ross from behind, was called. Should have been a boarding major, but he only got two. If that's a Flyers player, guarantee you it's a 5-minute major. I'll find a video when it's available.

There was a suspension for an elbow earlier this week, if it's similar to that then it should be suspension as well.

How bad?

Kovalev elbow was dirty, Plekanec's hit didn't really see it until it was over

pfff. Neither were bad, at all. Kovalev was doing his normal frustrated-late hit thing, no harm done. Plekanec!? please. I hope he at least gets credit for a hit on that, could be his first this year.

Is this how it's gonna be from now on! Crying wolf after every marginal hit. If so, it is gonna become EXTREMELY frustrating to be a hockey fan, in general!

Considering Gagne is coming off of two concussions, this could have meant he's out for the season or maybe even his career being over after an elbow to the head like that, I consider that being worthy of discussion. Plekanec smashed Ross's face into the edge of the bench, it was a very dangerous hit.

Come on. So everybody has to treat Gagne with kid gloves now, because of his medical history. That's not how the NHL works, sorry. He's fair game. Dirty hit, yes. Will it happen to Gagne again, absolutely.

Ross was off balance to begin with. Plekanec barely hits, let alone dirty ones.

Didn't see the Kovalev elbow, the RDS announcers didn't even mention it (and it's not because they're homers). The Plekanec hit was a boarding penalty and it was called as such...

I saw it briefly, definitely should have been an interference call, don't know about an elbow.

You were giving the impression you thought it was a normal hit. I'm just saying it was an elbow, and it should've been penalized.

Very hard to take you seriously, being a fan of a team with Ryan "Mr. Cheapshot" Hollweg.

View must be nice from your Ivory tower.

And therein lies the problem. "Dirty" hits happen all the time, several times a game, doesn't matter who you're watching. Not all of them get called.

Yet, now. Every questionable hit is debate-worthy, because "headshots" are the hot button issue right now.

I have no problem with you, just the topic, because it's starting to dominate the news, like it's a new problem, when in actuality, it's been there since the beginning of hockey. It's getting downright exhausting.

Bah, nothing compares to the "evil" of Andrei Kostitsyn. Just ask Cherry. I realize he's a Leaf homer but he's partially speaking from his Euro hatred and his love for good 'ol Ontario kids. It wouldn't matter what the teams involved were.

IT was an elbow to the head of a guy away from the puck. It wasn't hugely vicious, but it was definitely dirty. That said I would be marginally surprised if anything came out of it.

I've never understood how this a valid point? Because someone is a fan of a team who happens to have a player with a cheap history, their opinion isn't valid? That's just so ignorant and I've never been able to comprehend how it makes any sense.

No 5-minute major? WTF.

I could have used that 5 minutes in my fantasy hockey league, damn it.
