Euro Prospects Rights

The NHLPA filed suit against the NHL because the NHL due to a lack of transfer agreement with the IIHF has changed the status of drafted European prospects to defected, which is what it used to be under the old cba. The NHL won the case.

So that means that NHL clubs now can hold the rights to their Unsigned European draft picks for an indefinate amount of time. So for the Habs, they will continue to keep the rights of Alexei Emelin, Konstantin Korneev, Nichlas Torp, Andrei Sidyakin and Andrei Kruchinin.

I saw Andrei Kruchinin played 3-4 times last season and this guy is gonna be a star, habs gotta sign himafter this season.

Let's start the hype machine!! Maybe this way they wont start rumours like Koivuu is sure to stay in montreal cause they gonna make a movie or habs are on sale.

He was Emelin's D partner at one point. But he's had injury problems from what I've heard. Sidyakin dropped off after breaking out the previous two years where he racked up the goals.

Do we really get back the rights to Buturlin, Sidyakin, Kruchinin, Heino-Lindberg, Korpikari, Eneqvist, Ujcik, Linhart, ect?

My guess is that it does not apply to the players already lost at a time there was a transfer agreement in place with their respective federations. In this case it means the same Russian players on your list currently with the addition of Torp all do not need to be signed in order to keep their rights. All those other players are gone.

No! We never lost the rights to Sidyakin or Kruchinin as far as I know, since when they had to be signed, like all other unsigned Euro draft picks up to and including the '02 draft, there was no transfer agreement.

The otheres we lost all their rights because they weren't signed by the deadline and there was a transfer agreement in place. Buturlin is different because he played in the CHL and was offered a contract that he turned down.

This is my take on it but if I hear different I'll let you know.

Great news! so it means we're not in a rush to bring them over because of the fear of losing their right! Next summer we would have probably loose the right on torp even if only 1 season since we draft him (injured all of last year and not getting ice time this year)

For now but who's to say what will happen if the NHL can work out a transfer agreement. Torp would have needed to be signed by June 1st just like Subban and Fortier but for now it appears there's no deadline to sign him.

Thing is the longer they stay over there, the less you'll be able to bring them since they'll be used in staying home and will have a regular role as their career progresses.

Though, I see what Jonas Frogren did with the Leafs and believe there's hope after all....

I have no idea what Kypreos and Watters were talking about on Sportsnet tonight, but if there's anything to it at all, a Scandanavian Hockey League that is formally and officially affiliated to the NHL would be ridiculously cool. Guys like Torp could just keep playing there instead of Hamilton. In that scenario, I think you just give the NHLPA their bone and let the 2-year rights retention apply to everybody.

I'd have to check, it was over on the business forum so you might want to ask there.

Yes that's correct, just for unsigned euro drafted prospects
