Cam Barker

A suspect in many eyes until this season.
Has a goal and 2 helpers tonight. 3 goals and 6 assists in 8 games this year and I believe is a plus-1.

So has he finally realized some of that incredible offensive potential?
What do you guys think?

I don't know how many of those 6 goals tonight you can blame on Huet. I would say he should have stopped the first two, but Boyle's goals were beauties, Roenick's was on a terrible giveaway, and Setoguchi's GWG was on a Thornton/Marleau screen.

Still, he doesn't portray much confidence out there.

Barker looked good tonight, and I was really impressed with the hard work of Kris Versteeg. His goals weren't pretty, but they were the result of pure hard work.

Huet isn't awful, he's just been put in a tough situation for a goalie. I'm sure that when he went to Chi it was understood that Khabby would be moved, so Huet would be the undisputed starter. However, Khabby wasn't move, and has played well enough to take more the half the starts. Once he's moved and expect to see Huet bring his game back up, due playing the majority of the games and getting into a better situation for him.

I've been saying for 2 years now, Barker is legit and should end up a #1 or #2 franchise defenseman. For some reason, the Einsteins in Chi-city took the scenic route on figuring this one out. I guess that's understandable, seeing as how they haven't even been able to dump Havlat or Habby yet...

Why would Chicago trade a goaltender who is 4-1-4, 2.38gaa with a 0.921 sv% and 1 shutout, to instead ride out the season with their de facto backup, who is 3-3-1 with a 2.95gaa and a .900 sv%?

This is a team that has playoff aspirations. You can't downgrade your team in net and just hope that it'll spark the confidence of a backup who is getting outplayed. What message does that send?

If Khabibulin keeps up his level of play (I know he's only 9 games in, but his stats haven't been better since '03-'04 with TB), and Huet keeps his GAA around 3, there's no way he gets traded. He might leave via free agency or his rights will be traded after the season, but when you're vying for a playoff spot (and who doesn't see the Hawks fighting for somewhere between 6th and 10th) and you have a cup winning goalie who's had a solid year in net...?

There a number of reasons why Khabby will be moved:

1 - They didn't sign Huet to a long term deal to be the back-up. He will start to play like #1 when he gets #1 minutes.

2 - Khabby's contract is keeping them from gaining scoring depth.

3 - Khabby is in the final year of his contract, and losing him for nothing is not a great move when Huet is a more then capable replacement.

4 - Because of how well Khabby is playing he can get a higher return right now. That could be the difference of a top player/prospect vs a mid level player/prospect.

5 - With the injuries in NJ and NYI, starting goalies are in high demand right now, driving up their price. The longer they hold on to Khabby the sooner that DP and Marty come back, making him less valuable.
