Here's the write up on Grachev's game from the Battalion web site:

I would like to say something:

I just freakin' love the fact that he's playing with Duchene. If there's any chance this kid falls in 2009...

After losing Cherepanov the Rangers need to seriously consider moving up in future drafts to draft higher level prospects...

Truer words have not been spoken on this board in a while, I will be optomistic though.

Johan Franzen is the player he reminds me off.

Very big and strong, but also nifty with the puck. He is maybe more of a playmaker then Johan though...

...or taking more high-risk Russians who fall down the board.

No chance, IMO, unfortunately for my team too.

Most people had Matt in the top 5 based on last season and I think now that he's playing with a linemate with some finish, his stock is just going to go up.

I actually like the Nik comparison as a Leaf fan who's seen Grachev a bit with the Battalion. People forget that Antropov is a player who underwent surgeries to repair both knees very early in his career, he's not as slow at this point. Grachev is faster but I still see it.

Anyways, 14 straight for the Troops. Respect the Streak!

Grachev turning into a type of Antropov player would be pretty good...assuming we're talking about the Antropov of last year. A guy who could score between 50-70 points or so, not bad. 2nd line winger type production

He needs to improve his skating. The only thing that I saw while he played was that he was a bit slower than Artem. And Artem isn't a speed demon. If he can get that going for him, then I would say he's going to be a 1337 scorer on the big stage.

His skating is not bad.

He is 6-3, 202.

He is not going to be a speed demon based on his body type anyway.

However, he is not a bad skater what so ever.

There is evidence of that in Rangers on Demand.

Quick, who was the last Ranger prospect to score 4 goals in a CHL game?

If he's got 12G & 20P in 15GP in his rookie year, he has something other guys don't have. But that could be as simple as strength and physical maturity. I don't think it could be just luck at this point, but it's way too early to say he has elite skill.

If it is just size/strength, he might amount to another Artyukhin or Voros, like others have said. Perhaps he will be the top-tier Russian power forward the world has never seen (save Ovechkin), but who knows?

I think what he's doing in the OHL now is basically just showing that he has some skill and can produce in that environment. It's one of those situations where you'd be really worried if he didn't produce there, but the production by itself doesn't mean he'll be an effective NHL player.

So, we hope he has a good year or two, and then can bring that to the AHL level, and hopefully to the NHL level.

i think the antropov at his best comparison is probably about what i expect of him if everything pans out. which is something i could certainly live with.

The ironic thing is that I would say Grachev is the player we need right NOW. I could see him on a line with Dru and Z, actually. Hopefully we'll see that in a few years....

Yeah, as a matter of fact, does anyone know whether Grachev fights? I know guys from over there don't do much fighting, but maybe he's picked it up over here? Anyone?

Well said.

Very good news to see him excelling at this level. He looks like a good pick with potential.

I'm not going to fall into the trap of putting too high an expectation on him. I'll just follow his development and hope for the best.

The Cherepanov tragedy has cured me of looking too far ahead.
