Are Spezza's rumoured extracurricular habits still a problem now that Emery and Redden have departed? Me thinks he's like the Montreal night life...

Any thing Spezza is no thanks for me. Aside from offense, he is not the bright spot in the sky. He acts spoiled and looks to be a cry baby. Purely opinion from me but their is just something that stinks with this guy.

I know this is not Kovalchucks(sp...haaa) UFA year, but could we make some kind of a three team deal with Ottawa and Atlanta that would see Kovy coming to Montreal and Spezza to Atlanta? Not sure who Montreal could or would give up, but I thought I would throw it out there.

Ok, I changed my mind, I'm all for acquiring Spezza now.

As long as it's something like

Spezza + Ott 1st (they have to sweeten the deal you know )

for

Dandeneault + Bégin!

so what's the story about McGrin getting his ass kicked in a bar in Ontario? Does anyone know if it's true?

Pass on Spezza. I don't doubt he will command a big return, but he's not the player/contract I'd offer up that big return for.

Your proposal is quite a bit off.

I despise Jason Spezza myself, but this post is the type of post that gives Habs fans a terrible rep on Hfboards.

Who would you give for Spezza?

Keep in mind he would be our #1 center.

He would cost 7mil, and he would be locked up for a good long while.

No need to flame or bash, I know we need another #1 or #4 defender more then a Franchise center like Spezza, but if we had a chance to trade for Spezza, I wouldn't pass it up.

Just food for thought.
Spezza is a very poor fit for this team, we need more work ethic and consistency, not less.

He is simply not a player you win with...I'm sure there a much better places to spend 8 million and big assets.

I hope Gainey is never drunk enough to do that. Spezza is a fine talent but not a guy you go out and get if you are serious about making a cup run. Plus we'd need to chop 5 mil of saqlary just to make that deal work.

Plekanec, McDonaugh, Pacioretty for Spezza????

Automatic rejection.

I'd prefer to wait for Lecavalier to get extremely irritated by the lousy team they have in the Bay, somewhere around trade deadline or next summer, and for their bipolar owners to pull another Boyle

Plekanec, Latendresse, Halak, Carle and a 1st ???

Wow...say what you want about Spezza but he's a great player with great talent. I don't think the Sens appreaciate him enough, just like Kovalev, you have to take the good with the bad with these types of players, right now the Sens aren't playing well and the spotlight is on Spezza, but I don't expect them to continue being this bad and when they start playing better, I have a feeling Spezza will be a catalyst in that turnaround.

Alfie, Heatley and Fisher are as much to blame for the Sens poor showing of late...dont kind yourselves.

as for getting Spezza, i'd love it, but it won't happen

At playoff time Kovalev raises his game while Spezza doesn't...I don't think that's a good comparison.

That would NOT get you Spezza and Picard. The Leafs have no assets besides Kaberle, Toskola and maybe Kubina and none of them would bring Spezza in.

The only player I would be thinking about getting is Ilya Kovalchuk.
We don't need more centers. Plekanec, Koivu, Lang, Laps, Chipchura, Maxwell, Russell, Trotter, Lehoux, White, Aubin, Desharnais...

I'd be willing to trade:
Kovalev + prospect + 1st in 2010.

for

Kovalchuk.

But that's only if there is a need for a forward which at this point in team so early in the season there is none.
They could use a Dman 1st.

Those are the types we should be trading for.
We need Getzlav, Perry, Iginla, Jokinen, Moreau and Dustin Brown.

Book it!

Whether or not that would land them Spezza, I don't know.

What I do know is the Habs would not be willing to give up that much for him.

I doubt Kovalev is of any interest to the Thrashers.

Spezza's got 39pts in 40 career playoff games...and I wasn't comparing both players either.

The only part that's comparable with both of them is that they can be frustrating and brilliant all in the same shift.

I don't understand why people keep saying he's not a playoff performer. He was really good in the Sens' run to the finals and was what 23-24 years old? It's funny how this "Not a playoff performer" excuse always comes in when a player is rumored to Montreal. Some people even said that Hossa wasn't. .

Anyways, I'd take Spezza any day. 6'3 215 lbs, 25 years old.

All this talk for nothing though; it's not gonna happen.

The problem is you can't just "take" him...you'd have to trade a very good NHL plus a top prospect and something else...PLUS clear 4-6 mil of cap space and you still have not addressed the need for another skilled d-man which is the #1 need, not another center.

The Habs don't need more skill, they need to work harder and poick up the tempo, right now they are playing at preseason intensity.

Well, Spezza is a good face-off guy. He can rack up points, thats about all I think when I think Spezza. That and his annoying grin. Id give Pleks + Obyrne, 1st. Pacioretty and Mcdo are out of place in that first proposition, 2 blue chips, a talented centerman in Pleks, and a draft pick? Pleks is good, Obyrne is going to be solid, and a 1st in a deep draft. Even then, I dont really even want him...
