Damn, that first line is going to dominate us like the first line of Tampa did. Let's just hope that Lundqvist has a good game

Or you know hope the rest of the team has a good game so Henry can relax a bit.

I agree. Senators home and home swept by the ISLES of all teams. Their morale is hurt and are going to come out angry. The monstrous line of heatley spezza alfredsson is back.

But then again, our boys are coming off a HUGE win against boston. I know we can pull through, i like that the third line hasn't been changed. Just got to stay constitent here, and like everyone has been saying.... lets seem some damn effort in the first 20 guys.

Should be a walk in the park win, which worries me. Go get 'em!
Auld has been solid and deserves to be our #1... hands down right now.

Gerber is a giant, confidence-sucking vampire and has been for 3 years now. His game is about plausible deniability, as in... how best can he lose without making it look like it was his fault. His M-O is allow 3 weak-assed 1st period goals, watch the team die in front of him, make 20 spectacular 2nd period saves and then allow back-breaker to put the game out of reach just when the team shows signs of life again.

The cASH line is reunited for this game. However, I'm not sure that Alfie is 100% after his knee surgery. He's been slow, less agle and prone to giveaways this season. He may not hit his stride 'til closer to mid-season.

No, celebrations that Neil isn't playing? I just posted in our game thread how much you guys have historically hated him.

Ottawa has just been brutal this year. I really didn't expect them to do very well, but getting pushed around by the Isles like they did is just pathetic.

Still, this is a classic game the Rangers should win by 6 goals and wind up either barely winning, losing in OT or losing convincingly. 13-3 Sens.

Well, I was only thinking that back to back losses to the Islanders might earn Auld a seat on the bench. That said, I didn't watch those games though, so I'm not sure what the team in front of him looked like, although I assume it didn't look good.

I disagree that we are in for a letdown. In order to have a "monstrous" letdown, you have to be pretty high up to begin with. I don't see it that way. We basically stole the boston game, and I think our guys know we were "lucky" to get the 2 points.

Certainly Renney is going into this game with a guarded mindset. He knows we are far from "rolling".

The difference so far this year is that we are winning games when we have a chance. But we are hardly dominating. I think we'll see a good work ethic, and a solid win.

Staal gets more PP time tonight? Perhaps......

If this is a typical game for us.. it'll look like this:

Box score:

1st Period:
Heatley (11) Assisted by: Spezza, Volchenkov (5:42)
Alfredson (4) unassisted, short-handed (12:11)

2nd Period:
No scoring

3rd Period:
Korpikoski (2) Fritsche, Staal (13:56)
Drury (8) Zherdev, Mara (19:55)

OT:
Zherdev (8) Dubinsky, Drury (3:42)

Gerber: 45 Saves
Lundqvist: 24 Saves

Yeah, I'm expecting that. Although I'm not sure we'll have 3 forwards out in OT

No, not very good at all. I'm not sure that you can say I'm the minority opinion on the Sens board anymore (as most are seeing now that Gerber is a confidence sucking loser)... but they've been fairly predictable the past few years and it all surrounds their confidence in their goaltending.

Gerber is a short, butterfly goalie with no reflexes. He goes down fast, opens up a 2 foot strip across the top of the net and allows anything up high. However, he is good laterally. Which has made him better than average down low (and ultimately in close) and below average up high (which includes perimeter shots). Basically, Gerber's strengthes and weaknesses go against fundamental defense strategy. Our defensive play has repeatedly collapsed in front of Gerber. Our D-men play goalie, our forwards play defense... nobody challenges the shooters and we end up giving up high quality chances.

Auld... Auld is big. All he has to do is stand there and stop perimeter shots. The more he does that, the more the team is likely to spread out and start challenging shooters and allow fewer and fewer quality chances.

Maybe this sounds crazy... but really, it's just a re-hash of Emery taking over the starting job in Mid-Nov. 06-07.

The way renney plays, I would expect 3 defense man out for OT by the end of the season..

I'm hoping they come out skating start to finish but at this rate, I wouldn't mind being down 2-0 starting the 3rd

So true.

Hopefully Auld is playing. Before our losing streak, the team played incredibly confident in front of him. Playing Gerber, who always plays awesome as a backup, and a win may cause a goaltending controversy ala 07-08.

Good luck to both teams.

A team on a 5 game losing streak?

Yup, they are well due for a win.

Your barking up the wrong tree here. A lot of people on these forums think its very hard to have a consistant 60 minute effort from any team. I think its possible and its what seperates the good teams from the great teams. But others don't seem to think so.

I have a bad feeling about this game since OTT is on such a big losing streak. They're bound to break out of it. And that first line back together also spells trouble.
