There's a french kid on Los Angeles named Denis Gauthier who sure loves to hit...
But can't play hockey anymore for ****

That guy had a boatload of huge open ice hits if I remember correctly.
Yes, Kronwell has had some good hits, but he isn't exactly a hit machine. I don't think he was even over a hit/game last year.

Markov, Hamrlik and Gorges are not the super aggressive types. They are positional defenseman who do not necessarily play an aggressive physical game but all are effective at what they do. Bouillon would fill that physical role but has size limitations. Brisebois and Dandenault have no hope of ever being a physical defenseman.

Personally, I would like to see each pairing have a positional, puck moving defenseman paired with a physically imposing defenseman who plays with a bit of an edge.

Is this something that is missing from the team or are we okay with what we have?
I think we have more than enough size and physical play from the back end, we need another high end skill guy to move the puck and play the PP in order to win a cup IMHO. A Kaberle/Bouwmeester type guy to push O/byrne/Gorges/Bouillon to 5-6.

Frankly we need one more puck-moving guy and then fill the defensive core with big strong guys imo. That's what I would do. No Bouillon, Gorges and Brisebois allowed.

Sounds like Bobby Clarke, pre-lockout type thinking.

Bissonette has a nice name though and good size and he's young... so the HF habs board fan base will fall in love with him and want us to get him no matter how **** he is.

I call it Denis Gauthier syndrome.

Markov? Smart and skilled, but not tough.
Gorges? Can take a hit and pays the price, but not intimidating at all.
Bouillon? Hard hitter and very strong, but an extra 6 inches would help.
Komi? Punishing hitter but is often out of position looking for big hit.
O'Byrne? Big body and getting better, but not nasty enough.
Brisebois? Never was, never will be

What I'd like to see is a D that actually scares the opposition. Touch Price, he'll kick the crap out of you. Nasty and dirty like Pronger.

We got 8 or 9 penalties yesterday by playing like pansies. If you're going to get a penalty, get your money's worth and send a message that you're not allowed close to Price and you're not allowed to hack our stars or you'll pay the price. Who do we have now that strikes fear into the opposition?
I agree on almost all of your points. Bouillon can hit hard along the boards but his stature doesn't give him the leverage to move big forwards from in front of the net and his reach is limited. Having said that, I wish all our defenseman played with his heart. At this point, only Gorges does.

A Scott Stevens type would be perfect

Don't you think there is a reason he's cleared waivers and is in the AHL?

Phil Paquet should be making the jump to Hamilton next year, he's considered punishing.
