AO and Backstrom have turned into quite the duo indeed.

Backstrom will go down as one of the better playmakers of all time if he stays with Ovechkin and AO gets the motor going.

Semin goes down and Backstrom shines. Does it remind you about last year when Crosby went down and Malkin shined

Capitals Insider for 11/17

Quote:
Backstrom said conditioning [and coming into camp 20lbs overweight] was not the reason for his slow start. His sprained ankle, however, did have an effect. It took a few games before it was completely healthy, then it took a few more games before he stopped worrying about hurting it again.

Rumored!

It's likely true....but it was not apart of that blog post you linked.

The all-star game is totally irrelevant since it doesn't mean anything. Being an NHL star of the week actually means that you have accomplished something great that week. Something that counts in when you sum up the season. Like back in 06-07 when Crosby scored 13 points in 4 games one week. If he had scored at a normal pace that week he wouldn't have won the Art Ross.

The "20lbs overweight" bit was reported by Lisa Hilary, the Caps reporter for Comcast Sportsnet. Various pictures of Backstrom also showed that he had put on more than a few pounds over the summer.

That may be...but what you added to your quote of the blog post...was not in the blog post.

Im not disagreeing with the notion that he came in overweight....I'm just saying you misquoted the line written by Tarik in his blog.

I used brackets. Brackets are commonly used to insert explanatory text in quoted text and interviews.

Conditioning was a direct reference to Backtrom coming into camp out of shape.

The pass he made to Ovie was probably the best pass of the season when one considers the skill level it took to pull off and the situation. He certainly deserved first star of the week, and I hope he keeps it up!

Backstrom said it was bogus, that he put on muscle and his ankle injury hampered him this year.

But believe Lisa "Ozymandias" Hillary.
