Let's talk about the team we've got right now

The team site has taken unsigned players off the roster list. Here's who we have, including prospects who have a shot (however remote) of making the team. I know one could argue that I've grouped some people incorrectly, but cut me some slack. I'd like to see lines and D-pairings that you'd like to see assuming we do not sign any free agents.

Offensive Forwards
Straka
Frolov
Cammalleri
Robitaille
Armstrong
Klatt
Brown
Barney
Clarke

Checking Forwards
Avery
Cowan
Belanger
Pirnes
Flinn
Kelly
Kanko

Offensive Defensemen
Visnovsky
Dempsey
Gleason
Corvo
Zizka

Defensive Defensemen
Norstrom
Miller
Quintal
Holland
Grebeshkov
Muir

Goalies
Cechmanek
Garon

I think we have a giant hole at center and need a power forward, but here's my opening day lineup from this group as of today:

Robitaille-Armstrong-Klatt
Straka-Cammalleri-Brown
Frolov-Belanger-Barney
Avery-Pirnes-Cowan/Flinn

Norstrom-Dempsey
Quintal-Visnovsky
Miller-Gleason

Garon!

Frolov should be on one of the first two lines. Probably replacing Brown. Grebs has a good shot at being one of our top 6 D-man. Dont count Corvo out but Quintal will be on the roster as a 6th or 7th D-man for sure. Still not to bad of a team considering our salary would be what 30 mill? if even that.

We don't have a good team YET. If we kept the players we had right now, my prediction is about a 10-11 spot in the West similar to what we had this year. But if we add Demitra we could be a 6-8 seed in the West. Maybe bring in some other players, but I do think we are pretty solid. We're not in a position to go anywhere in the playoffs even if we had Demitra. Here's how I look at it:

IF- Lineup
Frolov-Demitra-Straka?
Robitaille-Armstrong-Klatt
Cowan-Belanger-Avery
Cammeleri-Pirnes-Carter

You gotta go w/ Cammy > Barney. Carter can play on the 4th line right? I think so. Keep in my mind thats IF we get Demitra, and IF we sign Carter.

Visnovsky has established himself as our #1 defenseman, and he should only get better with the absence of Modry.

Visnovsky-Norstrom
Gleason-Miller
Quintal-Corvo/Dempsey doesn't matter who you put right there.

Cechmanek..- Trade for a Center #1 or #2 Center!
Starter: Garon
Back-up: Hauser?

Who would you put him over? I think Cammy deserves a shot. He did more than Brown when he came up.. granted Brown played less games I think. I would rather have Cammy there.

Frankly, I'd move Muir out of the defensive "D" and into the offensive "D". From the Monarchs web site: "His 50 points ranked second in the circuit among blue-liners and his 13 goals ranked fourth."

I'd like to see Cammy play most if not the whole year.

Just the forwards:

Straka-Demitra-Carter
Robitaille-Camms-Frolov
Klatt-Pirnes-Armstrong
Cowan-Belanger-Avery

Imagine a Kovalev and/or Kariya in the line up. Imagine a return by Ally and/or Deader...still have faith.

Here's what I could see with our current lineup.

Frolov Barney Straka -Barney's got the size to play centre.
Robitaille Armstrong Klatt -Proven chemistry.
Cammy Belanger Brown -I can see Belly given a bit more of an offensive role.
Cowan Avery Kanko -Avery and Cowan played well together.

Norstrom Dempsey -There's a couple of options, but good depth.
Gleason Miller
Visnovski Quintal

Garon/Cechmanek -Best man gets the job.

I could see DT adding some depth especially on centre (Demitra?) and maybe adding Glen Murray! I think the best thing the Kings could do right now is add a young centreman such as Jokinen. I think he and Frolov would make great line mates.

I think some of you have not read the title of the thread "LET'S TALK ABOUT THE TEAM WE'VE GOT RIGHT NOW". Which does not include Carter or Demitra so don't add them to your line combos. I like KW's lines the best but I'd still tweek it some.

Fro-Barn-Straka
Luc-Army-Klatt
Cowen-Ebel-Avery--Ebel is what he is, a 3rd line center. He has failed everytime to force him into a different role.
Camms-Pirnes-Brown--Speed and lots of break-aways
extras-- Kanko, Flinn, Clarke, Hogeboom and Kelly

D
Norstom-Dempsey
Miller-Gleason
Vis-Corvo
Extras--Grebs, Muir, Holland, Quintal, Ziska
Easily enough depth on D to trade Miller for picks
Cech
Garon

Luc/Straka/Barney

Frolov/Army/Klatt (Frolov plays his BEST with these two guys)

Cowan/Avery/Brown

Pirnes/Cammalleri/Belanger

Though if Flinn is ready and if Kanko makes the team:

Flinn/Avery/Kanko would really bother opponents to no end.

Well right now, I wouldn't have Barney as a 1st line center.

Frolov-Smithson-Klatt

Robitaille-Armstrong-Straka

Avery-Belanger-Tukonen (They say he's NHL ready right?)

Cammeleri-Pirnes-Cowan
The reason i put Cowan right here is because, Cammeleri-Pirnes-Tukonen is a very small line. Tukonen isn't small, but Cowan could protect the little guys out there. Tukonen's not gonna go and stick-up for his line-mates with a big hit.

extras: Kanko, Flinn, Hogeboom, Clarke, Brown

I couldn't think of a center. So I went with Smithson lol.

To start the season?

Robitaille - Armstrong - Klatt
Frolov - Cammalleri - Straka
Avery - Belanger - Cowan
Barney - Pirnes - Brown

Norstrom - Dempsey
Miller - Gleason
Quintal - Visnovsky

Cechmanek
Garon

Flinn, Holland, Corvo

By mid-season, I would want to see something like the following:
  • Straka, Cechmanek, Miller dealt for prospects/picks/futures
  • Norstrom dealt, possibly with Cammalleri (who may be expendable long term) for a mid-20's top-6 forward
  • Grebeshkov plays too good in Manchester, earns spot in LA
  • Garon plays too well in backup role, prompting the promotion to starter
  • Frolov and/or Visnovsky are LA's rep at the All-Star game
  • Brown, Barney and Avery are all on pace to hit 15 goals and 100 PIM

Frolov Barney Straka. I like that line. If Straka starts off hot, deal him.
Robitaille Armstrong Klatt. The veteran leadership line.
Cammy Belanger Brown. 3rd scoring line.
Cowan Avery Flinn. 4th line to piss off every other 4th line.

Norstrom Dempsey. Deal Norstrom during the year.
Gleason Miller. Deal Miller during the year.
Visnovski Quintal. Visnovski will put up 40 points not having to play d with Quintal in the Kings zone.

Garon/Cechmanek. Whoever wins the starting job.

So sometime next season I'd like to see our lineup look something like this.
Frolov-Barney-Cammy
Robitaille-Armstrong-Klatt
Belanger-Pirnes-Brown
Cowan-Avery-Flinn (Is Kanko ready yet?)

Dempsey-sign a veteran (Odelein, Berehowsky, Simpson, Cullimore?) or throw in Zizka/Grebs/Corvo
Gleason-Holland
Quintal-Lubo

Rebuild starts with a bang and our youngsters get valuably experience as well as the Kings get a top 5 pick in the process with the hope of acquiring young Mr. Crosby.

Seriously I hope we don't sign anyone this offseason. I want us to get the comp picks for Stumpel, Ziggy, Carter, Allison, Deader, Modry and anyone else that will get signed. . .

Unfortunately LA will not recieve comp. for Carter, Allison or Deadmarsh since they were RFA who weren't tendered qualifying offers. It's BS for LA in the case of Allison and Deader but its just tough luck. As for Carter, LA doesn't deserve compensation at all as that was just a poor decision by management.

We should get a second rounder for Ziggy though and decent picks for Stumpel and Modry.

That's right, I forgot about it. BUt at least a 2nd and maybe a couple of 5ths or 6ths for Stumpel/Modry.

You might do better with Kelly as your center instead of Smithson. Kelly's faster, smarter, and a better puck handler. He's a better playmaker, too. He's also a more physical player than Smithson. Smithson is a pretty good pest, but he's a 3rd-line pest at best.

I would take Smithson over Kelly. Although I didn't get a chance to see Kelly play in Manchester, he didn't impress me in his call-ups to the big club. His skating just isn't there, and he seems to be a pace behind everyone else.

I saw Smithson at the Development camp and thought he'd be a great agitator along with Avery. Smithson was bothering the younger guys, and we all can't forget the dirty hit he laid on Nagy two seasons ago. He has speed, can take faceoffs, and is a defensive-minded forward.

Kelly, on the other hand, has blown chances with NJ, EDM, and now the Kings. He will always be one of those players who come and go, but supposedly had a lot of potential when we got them (see Patrice Tardif, Kai Nurminen, Steve Larouche, Lonnie Loach, and the list goes on).

Iv liked him also since he was drafted. There was another player drafted with him (I cant remember his name at the moment) that I thought alot of also. I hope he gets a shot, Avery pisses me off to much.
