Best GM not in the?

For a long time I have been thinking, who is capable of running the NHL team as a GM that has not gotten their chance yet. Anyoutside the NHL or inside?

No, Jim Nill is Ken Holland's Assistant GM in Detroit, very highly regarded. You are thinking of Neil Smith. I don't remember why he got fired

Totally homer, but Yzerman. He's getting some experience with Canada in the Olympics, which is good. Also, he gets a lot of respect and is straight-forward and trustworthy enough to create any respect he doesn't have already. He's pretty much like a good version of Joe Sakic! (I love Joe, but I'll always hate the Avs )

The GM of the Chicago Wolves has been a runner up a couple of times for open GM spots. Kevin Cheveldae(sp?)

Craig Heisinger is a good talent evaluator, but seems to be pretty satisfied in Winnipeg.

Apparently, he was fired because Garth Snow was more qualified to be general manager.

But I think it was really because he had some sort of disagreement with Mr. Wang, so he got axed.

Patrick Roy. Better GM than coach.

Craig Heizinger, current GM of the Manitoba Moose.

Would probably be an NHL GM except he has no interest in leaving Winnipeg or moving his family. Exceptional talent evaluator, found guys like Burrows and Rypien for the Canucks.

I'm pretty sure Billy Beane could make a quality team in any sport.
