Your realistic fantasy line-up

I just thought this would be a little bit of fun and, somewhat, of a challenge. Put together your starting line-up...you must be under the cap of 56.7 mil. Use this year's salaries but also take into account how much they will be making in a year or two. I checked nhlnumbers.com for the cap hits. Here's my line-up...

Zach Parise (3.125) - Ryan Getzlaf (5.325) - Trent Hunter (2.00)
Scott Hartnell (4.20) - Mikko Koivu (3.250) - Patrick Sharp (3.90)
Milan Lucic (0.850) - Samuel Pahlsson (1.40) - Ryan Callahan (0.575)
Shawn Thornton (0.517) - Maxime Talbot (0.675) - George Parros (0.550)

Willie Mitchell (3.50) - Duncan Keith (1.475)
Brooks Orpik (3.750) - Dennis Wideman (3.875)
Johnny Oduya (0.60) - Andrew Ference (1.40)

Ryan Miller (2.667)
Stephen Valiquette (0.725)

Total cap hit....44.359
Total cap space....12.341

I wanted to put together a very good, defensive-minded team. One that would be a pain in the ass to play against every night. As you can see, I am well under the cap. This is because of a few factors....

1) Ryan Miller's cap hit will increase next season....
2) Zach Parise will be making 5 mil a year come the 2010/2011 season...
3) Milan Lucic will receive a nice raise in the coming years...
4) Pahlsson is a UFA after this season. Will likely command close to 3 mil...
5) Ryan Callahan is a RFA after this season. Should receive between 1-2 mil....
6) Johnny Oduya is a UFA after this season. Should receive around 2 mil....

How would you rate this team? So far I'm fighting for 1st in the league against Minnesota. I would love if more people joined so either PM me or go to the mock drafts section and search for my league... it's a pretty active keeper league starting this year and it would be great to get some new faces.

Just give me the San Jose Sharks.

Under cap, and seem to be doing just fine.

Why are Henrik Zetterberg and Jason Pominville not on these lists? Ridiculous bargains.

Brenden Morrow (4.10) - Mike Ribeiro (5.0) - Dustin Brown (3.175)
Zach Parise (3.125) - Ryan Getzlaf (5.325) - Teemu Selanne (2.625)
Aaron Voros (1.0) - Jordan Staal (2.20) - Sam Gagner (1.625)
Milan Lucic (0.850) - James Neal (.822) - Mark Recchi (1.25)

Dion Phaneuf (6.50) - Shea Weber (4.50)
Andrei Markov (5.75) - Stephane Robidas (1.50)
Luke Schenn (1.25) - Paul Ranger (0.933)

Carey Price (2.20)
Chris Osgood (1.417)

Total Cap Hit: $56.330 Million
Total Cap Space: $0.670 Million

This leaves very little wiggle room, but most of the players are locked up to 3 year deals or longer and simply moving someone like Markov once a lot of the 2 year deals are up would allow enough space to keep the team together. Here's how the team looks as far as contracts. Keep in mind the years remaining include the current 08/09 season:

5+ Years:
Dustin Brown (6)
Ryan Getzlaf
Brenden Morrow
Dion Phaneuf
Mike Ribeiro

3 Years:
Andrei Markov
Chris Osgood
Zach Parise
Luke Schenn
Aaron Voros
Shea Weber

2 Years:
Carey Price
Paul Ranger
Stephane Robidas
Teemu Selanne
Sam Gagner
Milan Lucic
James Neal

1 Year:
Jordan Staal
Mark Recchi

I think it's a pretty solid core that could stay together for a while and would only need a few tweaks in 2 or 3 seasons to keep it together.
