I like Parise, but Richards by far. Like already mentioned it's the intangibles.

That statement is flat out retarded.Parise while a good player is not a leader. The only thing Richards ever said was he did not think he was ready and they gave him the C anyway.

It was not a publicity stunt nor a way to keep him in philly.

And what do people think about Richards in this thread?

But still for some reason according to you, he "hasn't earned it" yet.

-he barely played 200 nhl games before getting it

-he only played 3 season before getting

-there are other worthy candidates of it

now you tell me how he has earned it at the nhl level

Gunnar I hate to break it to you, but even fellow Devils fan would probably say Richards over Parise.

I love Zach and all and I think he's an excellent player, but Richards is an all around guy and a lot feistier than Parise.

Just because there are other worthy candidates, doesn't mean he wasn't worthy of it either. It's all about leadership and obviously his leadership skills stuck out far more than his other teammates. Who cares that he's young (see Crosby, Lecavalier, etc). He obviously deserved it.

And I'm not saying Zach doesn't deserve to be Captain some day, but he's on a veteran filled team and until they're gone, he probably won't even wear an "A".

I don't see a problem there. Richards is an exceptional leader and deserves his comparisons to Messier.

Do you think Parise should be captain? He's only played 30 more games.

i never said parise over richards, i just said parise has leadership qualities and it is ridiculous to compare richards, as a leader, to messier right now

Zach Parise is the better finisher, but I pick Mike Richards over him.

Richards is such an allround centerman, can do it all and has the same work ethic that Parise has. Both guys are really awesome.

Even Devils fans would pick Richards over Parise, but when people say things like "Richards and it's not even close" makes it ridiculous. Yeah, most people will probably go with Richards, including me, but to say that Parise isn't close is just plain out braindead.

That's disrespecting one hell of a player in Zach Parise, and when you think about it he's really not that far behind Richards.

Then what's this post up here for then?

It's a waste of space...

Yeah comparing Richards to Messier right now might be a little far fetched, but it's not something that surprises me (at least around here).

mike richards has easily earned his C. he's been a leader at every level he has played at. i don't know why you're so hellbent on saying he was gifted with it.

Why can't he earn it? Why are you so against him having it and so against him possibly earning it?

No, he signed an extension early last year when Smith was captain, well before he would have been able to use the C as a "bargaining chip". Its really a losing argument you are waging.

what do you mean why cant he earn it? he can, he just hasnt yet. i mean i think he had an A in his 2nd yaer. i dont care that he has it, i would be upset if parise had a letter this early in his career, especially with all of our veteran leaders on the team, but i dont think he earned the C just like i dont think crosby did, though they had less veterans

And that's your opinion and that's why you're not the coach, GM, etc.

Obviously they thought that he deserved it and he had earned it otherwise he wouldn't have the "C".

Give it a rest dude...you've lost.
