Also, the St. Louis Blues acquired forward Brandon Crombeen off waivers from Dallas while the Minnesota Wild waived defenceman Tomas Mojzis.

Is this guy the one time Canuck prospect who was highly hyped in these parts?

I don't know about "hyped"... I think everyone always considered him a longshot to make the NHL... I think the only hype he got was after his junior year as an overager when he was first signed by the canucks... he was excellent that year, albiet as an overager...

other than that, I don't think he got any more hype than any other prospect for any team in the league that has shown even a hint of talent at some point or another.

I hope he clears. He's being waived so he go down the to the minors/make room for an emergency call-up. Nolan Schaefer is being called up to fill-in as backup for Josh Harding. Harding some kind of mild lower-body ailment.

Why did they even bother signing McCarty, if they were gonna waive him. They knew his skillset and abilities.

Could be waiving them, hoping they get taken, just to open a spot on the total number of NHL contracts allowed per team (50?)

THey did the same thing last year with Downey. If he gets picked up no big deal. If he doesnt we probably keep playing him. Whats interesting is with Cleary currently out but not on the LTIR I am not even sure we have the cap space to bring up Helm (who makes a few thousand more then Mac).

Either way he will probably find himself in Grand Rapids as soon as Cleary is back in the lineup. (given chelios is getting close too).

2nd Time this season McCarty has been waived.

And hes played every game since the first time.

This is just buying them a 30 day window of not being required to do anything if they have to make a roster change.

If he clears, and say Osgood is out for 2 games a week from tomorrow. The wings can send McCarty down with out waiting and call up a back up goaltender.

Mojzis being waived a precursor to Gaborik being dealt?
