It does. It actually completely change the meaning of the sentence. One implies that he's not interested and the other one that he isn't right now but might be later on.

You gotta interpret the whole article....Gainey is in LA to watch Sundin, why would he go if he's not interested...use some Ikea (Swedish for common sense)
Exactly..

It means that the objective of the trip is to watch him and not to offer him a contract. It does not mean that he will never make him an offer..especially if he likes what he sees.

So basically this going to LA "just to watch" is an homoerotic trip.

I doubt we get either one, and just rely on our team we have now and hope their work ethic picks up.

Although I am sick of all the Sundin drama and speculation, it may very well be looked back upon as one of Bob Gainey's best moves ever as a GM if he were to convince Sundin to become a Hab.

A true #1 center with size, grit and skill is what has been missing from this team for years (no slight to Koivu who is our MVP as of right now). If healthy, Sundin could lead this team deep into the playoffs, and perhaps a Cup.

The way the roster is now......... I wouldn't exactly call us favourites. The 100th anniversary hype has blinded a lot of people, and the media in beleiving this is a complete team.

We are far from it. A Sundin type player is needed, along with added grit to the defense. A powerplay point man would be nice as well.

lol

i'm not sure how you even got that Gainey wasnt going to give him an offer...as someone else mentioned its pretty obvious his number 1 reason is to see if Sundin will be "ready" to play...if he's gone this far he will attempt to sign Sundin if there is a possibility

If Gainey were to sign Sundin I bet Carbo would play him with Kosto & Latendresse.

If Gainey is interested in Sundin and has to trade a player like Kovalev to clear cap space, I hope they send him out west. Kovalev seems like the vindictive type, I sure wouldn't want to run into him on a regular basis.

Proof is last season, he bettered himself because the Russian Hockey Federation Didn't want him...not because The Montreal Canadiens needed him to lead.

And you're privy to this insight because you're the jock strap that Kovalev uses to protect his privies? Is that it?

If Gainey's watching Sundin, he's obviously at least considering signing him. I wonder what trade he's decided on to make room if "just in case" becomes "here's an offer?"

I could swear I read somewhere that Kovalev has a limited no trade clause that says he can't be traded to the Western conference.

This makes no sense considering it wasn't until May month when Team Russia snubbed him.

Trading Kovalev seems like a plausible move if Sundin is being added. It'd be moving out one UFA for another (I assume).

It would be disappointing if the clause in Kovalev's contract really is there, as Vancouver may be good trading partners in adding a defenseman at the same time.

While I somehow doubt that, whatever keeps him on his game I guess. We all need a bit of motivation from time to time.

If Sundin wants to play in Montreal, ok, sign him. If not, go for Bouwmeester! We need a Dman before a Center.

If he isn't interested in trying to attain his services then he is wasting precious time.
