Well, let me see....

First Sundin meets with Brian Burke in California.
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=2548...headlines_main

Then Burke leaves the Anaheim Ducks...

Now Burke is meeting with Leaf management this weekend...
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/11/20/leafs_burke/

Burke will join the Leafs, and so will Sundin.

Gainey will come back to Montreal, with a nice tan.

Why not just trade Lang????? Would make more sense.

Yes it does, but right now personnally i'm more inclined to see what we could get for Plekanec instead

So we potentially head into the off-season with Lapierre as our only centre under contract?

Lecavalier.... for Plekanec, Lats, Halak, Carle and a 1st. (oh and waive Dandy)

Just saying, he might be tired of the nonsense over there and TB might just pull another Boyle.

And yeah, if this pipedream would become true, we wouldn't need Sundin, but we would still need to trade Lang and maybe OB with him... For a 4th D who would cost no more than 3 mil. Rbing Chips or Maxwell over to Montreal to complete the lineup.

Yeah I know.... dreams are nice.

If we can dump Dandy and Kostopolous we could possibly offer Sundin just over 5 miilion. This includes the savings from these two guys plus the salary we have left under the cap.

Centers: Sundin, Koivu, Pleks and Lapierre.

You would have to move Lang to the wing.

Could Sundin center Lang and Kovalev?

Koivu center Higgins and Tanguay?

Pleks center the two brothers?

Lapeirre center any combination of Laraque, Begin and Latendresse?

Kostopoulos was one our best players in the playoffs and he makes like 800,000... wouldn't make any sense at all to trade him.

I agree that he was one of our best playoff performers last year, but you have to give up something to receive something. I thought Kostopoulos was making 1.9 million? Maybe it's my mistake...not sure. Dandy making just over 1.7 million.

First: Getting Sundin won't solve the problems. He should had been with the team right from the start. we need top quality grinders/wingers + a PP specialist to play on the right point, not another center.

Second: if Gainey really wants to sign him, he will have to move some players to fit under the $ cap.

WHO ? : Dandenault and Begin are not enough - and who would want them in the league ? Lang ? who would want him at 4 million ?

Dandenault 1 725 000
Begin 1 057 000
Brisebois 1 500 000 against the cap because of bonuses
Laraque 1 500 000
Chipchura 942 000 for a guy in the minor

Over 6 000 000$ for guys that dont bring much to the team so far.
This is at least 3 000 000$ of wasted money.

Lang has been playing decent hockey if you consider that he as been playing with non-regular linemates, Kostitsyn, Kostopoulos, Latendresse on a 3rd line.
I would really like Sundin here but i am not sure if it will happen.
i guy like Shanahan could help us, we dont nee to trade anyone which allow us to trade our assests for a solid top 4 d-men

I hope Gainey go for a trade with the Kings, Kopitar (might cost a lot), Brown (would like him here).

You're correct, I mixed up the seasons...Kovalev was said to have a chip on his shoulder for this season because of that snubb, was going to lose weight and improve speed.

Been thinking this for a while now.

He hasn't impressed me much. he doesn't excel in any particular skill, but he's just there and doing his thing. A pleks trade will send a message to the other players though, and bringing in Sundin makes the most sense out of any other trade that has been mentioned. The defence sucks because it's the forwards that aren't helping them out. Adding a top 4 D will help, but adding sundin will help much more. We lack all that sundin can bring. HE'S THE MISSING LINK!!!!

OH and we do have a guy named CHipchura that should be given the 4th line Centre role. Forget about lapierre.

WAAAAAAY too early to give up on Pleks. He was great last year, is one of the fastest players on the team, and maybe the best defensive forward.

It took him until the second half to really get going last year too.

I know what you mean, BUT. Koivu will not be signed for more then what he is earning right now, maybe he could reach 5 mil, 250K is a non-factor. Lang is on the decline and weather or not he stays with us, he will not be paid anywhere close to 4 mil, so if we need him, we'l re-sign him for another season. Maxwell is almost certain of starting the year next season, he's been looking very impressive till now and management (especially Carbo) is super high on him, they gave him top notch linemates at the last camp to see him at full potential. Add to that there's always the possibilitie of signing Sundin, or another UFA, + maybe the other center we could get out of a deal with Plekanec and Chipchura being NHL ready. Point is, it's not that much of a concern as you think it is.
