if we get sundin, drop dandenault and begin, and call up d'agos and pac, we can have 4 scoring lines

Put Lang on the wing.

Lang Sundin Kovalev

Higgins Koivu Tanguay

A. Kost. Pleks S. Kost.

Laraque Lapierre Latendresse (I like Kostopoulos but his price may have to be
dumped to afford Sundin. Begin and Dandy as
well.)

Gainey also abides by a unwritten code...you don't send down long serving veterans like Begin and Dandeneault, guys who have been loyal and hardly complained.

As much as I'd like to drop these guys to get cap space Gainey will never dis-respect either one by sending them to Hamilton, that you can bet your house on.

I certainly didn't mean send them to Hamilton. I thought that maybe a trade for a draft pick might work.

Odds are they crossed each other in the hall or something and Gainey said "hi".

I have no problem whatsoever with Lang in the lineup, however I do question his ability to play wing, and if it means adding Sundin then it is a worthy sacrifice imo.

If Gainey doesn't sign Claude Lemieux, he sure as heck ain't gonna sign Mats Sundin.

I must be missing something here?

Gainey flys all the way out to LA and meets with Sundin within the last 48 hrs and we got posters claiming he isn't interested in Sundin ?

I realize that he's out there talking to Sundin

What I meant was, he shouldn't bother at this point...he didn't sign here, we got Lang...move on

I'm fine with Sundin not in Montreal. What would bother me is:
Sundin with Boston
Sundin with NY
Sundin with Pittsburg etc etc

It could make sense. Sign Sundin, trade extra forwards for a #4 D (Maybe there's another "Gorges in the rough" somewhere). This would require precise asset management though. Cap, player positions, chemistry etc.

No GM is gonna take these guys at their price tag.

dandeneault at 1.7 is nuts...and Begin at 1.3 isnt a great value.

I think it WOULD be a bad idea. Other than Koivu and Markov, Lang has been the most consistent player out there this year. He is pretty good defensively as well, and will be a good veteran to have around come playoff time. He is a keeper.....well, for this season anyway. I don't think there will be enough $$$ to go around to keep him next year, as obviously Koivu, Komi, Kovy, Pleks etc are priority.

can't be worried about what other teams do

The Habs have a great team who finished 1st in the East last year and has already added 2 top 6 forwards and as you can see from this year...they're already having a tough time being cohesive as a unit...I think adding another forward at this point is a mistake, even one that is the calibre of Sundin. Now...I was all for getting Sundin in the summer, but I just don't think it's the right move now since Sundin doesn't appear to be too hungry for the Cup or to even play with the Habs.

The main focus should be getting a d-man shooter for the PP (since it's pretty obvious that Markov can't be both the shooter and QB on the PP) who can also log Top 4 minutes.

if gainey signs sundin i would have to think pleks would get traded....if that is the case i'm ok with it as long as they either get a UFA to be such as Boomeester or a 3rd or 4th defenceman
