Lang or Bonk?

Who would you guys rather have this season, keeping in mind their salaries?

Remember at the beginning of this season? OMG 3 offensive lines, we're not officially contenders blablabla. Well, it turns out that we pretty much blow 8 inches offensively, 3 offensive lines aren't really working. Could a defensive third line with a player like Bonk have been more useful to us?

Am I the only one to actually like Lang?

He does take stupid penalties, but aside from that...

I thought Lang played pretty well tonight. If he stops taking penalties when we're on the PP, then he should be alright. Remember, he basically has a different set of wingers every game.

He hasn't been good on faceoffs, but overall I agree with you. The hate for Lang is completely unjustified. 13pts in 19gms, plays PP, ES, SH...The guy is on pace for 56 points. For a "3rd line center" that's a pretty healthy total.

Not that it's the be all and end all stat, but he's also tied for 2nd on the team in +/-.

Really I think Lang adds a lot of depth at centre and overall he's the best no.3 guy we've had in a very long time.

Bah I don't hate Lang, but I still miss our shut down line with Bonk. Maybe what I'm really asking is are we better off with 2 or 3 offensive lines, seeing how we don't seem to be scoring much more with 3.

If Lang can stop pleading his innocence when a ref hasn't even seen what he did, it would be a huge improvement. That being said without him I think we'd be doing much worse.

Bonk is done, there is no way in hell I would give up Lang to bring him back.

well considering bonk scored 5 goals in 50+ games and lang 5 goals and 13 pts in 19 games, this is a easy choice.

Stupid thread. Our 2 best players seasons are arguably Tanguay and Lang. Plekanec should actually be our 3rd center and be the main man on the PK. Cut him off the PP and make him a defensive specialist.

Latendresse-Koivu-Tanguay
A. Kostitsyn - Lang - Kovalev
Higgins - Plekanec - S. Kostitsyn
Laraque - Lapierre - Kostopoulos

I'm 100% certain we'd be doing much better defensively if Higgins and Plekanec were our guys to go on the PK. They were drafted for that role, and we are obviously expecting too much out of them right now.

Latendresse and A. Kostitsyn were drafted as high quality talent... Plekanec and Higgins for their defensive play and work ethic.

BTW Carbonneau is an idiot for sending Markov instead of Tanguay.

Lately, it seems like he is on the ice at least once a game for a habs goal scored..... and that is saying something since the offense is sputtering as a whole. I liked bonk as a hab once he found his niche, but lang is a definitely a better fit for the game that the habs want to play.

The only notable thing bonk has done since leaving the habs is winning the green jacket last season.

I understand the motivation for the thread. I mean, Lang has a pretty long reptutation in the league as a source of soft offense only. I sometimes worry that the Habs are overusing him, much as they did Smolinski. He's the magical right shot element on the PP, and gets a lot of faceoff and PK responsibility that I don't know he's up to. The cool thing by contrast to Smolinski is that Lang is still a talented and good player, where Smolinski was pretty much done.

I don't know... between Bonk and Lang, I think I need more data. I suspect I'd go with Lang, despite some of my mini-critiques of him. But I do worry he's being over-utilized.

You mean the Radek Bonk that was -31 last year and has been a healthy scratch a couple of times this year in Nashville?

a 3rd line C on pace for 50+ points... that's what Lang is right now...

Yeah, let's get rid of him so we can acquire someone who'll score 7 or 8 goals a year...

I'd take Lang over Bonk any day.

When Lang was in Detroit, Wings fans were pretty frustrated with his 'effort.' He stayed out of corners and the dirty areas. With his size, it was expected that he'd be a little more physical but alas that was never part of his game. His lovely locks might get out of place if he mucked it up a bit more.

He wasn't offered a new contract when he left Detroit, and word was he didn't buy into Babcock's demands for two-way play (hard backchecking by the center is a must in Detroit).

You do remember that we didn't make the PO when we had that shutdown line right?..And that our team looked more bad than good??..

That Lang line that you don't consider and offensive one, produced both our goals yesterday.
This line has been put in place for just a couple of games, and yesterday A.Kost looked amazing. If they can keep it up, I'll be very happy with our 3rd line.

Lang is great, he's really smart offensively. Has that cunning like Saku.

He's not been the huge liability that wings/hawks fans were warning about. I guess because there he was supposed to be a #1 scoring centre, here he's being coached a more 2 way game with 2 way wingers also.

Agreed, Bonk is a shadow of the player he once was. Lang is the best, outside of Sundin, we could get and he is doing the job that is being asked of him.

Lang, no doubt about it. I don't know why some of you guys have a problem with him...yeah, he's not the fastest skater, but he's been doing a pretty good job of putting points on the board. Best #20 we've had in awhile.

On the other hand, if you gave me the choice of Lang or Bonk and Perezhogin...

Is this a serious discussion? Saying that you would rather have Bonk than Lang is like a straight male saying that he would rather sleep with Rosie O'Donnell than Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
