Here's the thing about a Zubov trade. It's already been rumored for years that he and Modano were going to finish their careers in Dallas. However, given the current situation and Hull/Jackson being impatient I can see a trade going down. Just remember Zubov single handily changes our teams chemistry. The MON deal is a beast trade and I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Just a little side note as well... Dallas won't trade for a goalie, we're a goaltending factory and always have been, and with Bachman coming up through the system next year I doubt we'll look at goalies. Halak looks good though, so I'd take him but I doubt Hull/Jackson would.

Montreal makes a lot of sense, since Gainy and most of the coaching staff use to be in Dallas and know what he brings. But if we were in a spot to trade Zubov it would be for the best return

I could also see the Stars asking him which teams he'd prefer if he wanted to go, but who knows

Oh he'd definitely get to choose his team, I can't see them just blindly trading him after all he's done for the team.

Well Big, we can always trade up with a late pick.

I think it would be a template for any team who wants to acquire Zubov.

Any trade involving Zubov and Boston would require Kessel at least.

Boston wouldnt trade Kessel for a rental. A 1st in 09 and a top prospect would be about right i would think

PK Subban/David Fisher (Prospect)
1st Round Pick (2009/2010)

Total Salary: 3.500

To Montreal:
Sergei Zubov (5.350, UFA in 09/10)
Tobias Stephan (0.485, RFA in 09/10)

Total Salary: 5.835

Bouillon would be a throw-in to make the cap situation possible on Montreal's end (he's a UFA at the end of the season, and can fill on the back end in a vacant spot as the defensemen move up the depth chart). Preferable for Montreal if the pick is 2010, as I'd imagine the team would like to have a 1st rounder with the draft in Montreal.

I believe the salaries work if Montreal unloads Dandenault in a subsequent trade (in which case a pressbox seat would be filled by either Chipchura or Stewart) and the scoring line spot left vacant by Latendresse's departure would be filled by a D'Agostini call-up.
Wayyyy too much going to Dallas, no thanks.

He's a PPG this year, he'll make it to the NHL. He'll just take longer than Weber. And will probably have a bigger impact on the team when he matures.

If I could wish for a trade, I'd want Volchenkov and Vermette from OTT. I knkow neither team would do it but I think it'd be a good one.

Classic 'what have you done for me lately' HF mentality... just be patient with our prospect for once.

Yan Weber is really good, but Fischer will be something special.

Boston then hangs up the phone laughing. I wouldn't trade Kess straight up for Zubov. I'll take my 10+ years of Kessel over one of Zubov any day.

As an aside, what else do you think would have to be added WITH Kessel to get Zubov.

You're dreaming unless Dallas is also sending Brunnstrom to Boston. And my view is that of an unbiased fan because I am a not a fan of either team.

I don't think we could get Kessel with Zubov, unless Zubov was maybe 3-5 years younger. Even then, I doubt Boston would do that.

I don't think we could get anything significant out of Boston. Wideman would be the only real piece that you could feasibly pry from Boston, but I don't think these two teams would make good trading partners in any sense.

I'll just put it this way, Boston would give NO vital roster players for ONE year of Zubov. Which would include Chara, Wideman, Savard, Bergeron, Krejci, Kessel, Lucic, Thomas, Kobasew, Sturm....

It's just far too much to give up for a one year player.

Weber also looks special, though, and he offers a skillset that is more valuable to the Habs because they have much less of it readily available. Fischer is big, but he isn't Komisarek. He skates and passes well but so does Weber, and Weber's cannon shot is much more useful.

Cap hits are roughly the same (little more to Dallas)

Dallas gets two players who might do well with a change of scenery in Prucha and Rozsival. They acquire a pretty good goalie prospect, which their farm system is lacking. They also pickup a 1st and 2nd round pick (albeit likely late picks).

New York tries to recapture past magic by upgrading Rozsival into Zubov for a Cup run this year. They aren't using Prucha anyhow so no loss there. They have enough young players right now to absorb the loss of the future they give up for a shot now.
At first I thought that was a little too much for a 38 year old guy, but you know what I'd do it. It would be amazing if Zubie returned to NY and won another cup 14 years later.

The Stars' system lacks a pretty good goalie prospect? That's news to me.

It's pretty much accepted that Turco's heir is Richard Bachman, currently over-achieving at Colorado College in the NCAA. He won the Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year last year.

They also drafted Tyler Beskorowany in the 2nd round of this last draft, and while he doesn't seem to have as much potential as Bachman, he seems like he could turn into another Dan Ellis or Mike Smith quality goaltender in the Stars' system.

Would Calgary be a good trading partner for the stars??

if they could hook phaneuf up with a stud like zubov, it would give them a good run for the playoffs??

I dont have any idea about their prospects though...

something simple...

(at the deadline)

to cal- Zubov

to dal-1st round pick +3rd liner + D man prospect??

just a thought....
