I don't understand what most people have against Larry?

He's the 21st century version of "The Chief"

Also, if you don't know who the chief was, you aren't a real ranger fan.

The reason people dislike Larry is because he thinks he is a star. Its soooo ridiculous that it gets me frustrated. He even appeared on the CW11 morning news as "Dancin" larry OF THE NEW YORK RANGERS.... NO HE IS NOT A RANGER he is a Season ticket holder who dances poorly.

I've also seen him try to fight people if they try to dance while he's dancin. I mean come on tool bag, relax. I wish i coulda seen his face when for a short time Dancin Granny replaced him last year. He was probably losing his MIND!

All Larry did...

was try to get the fans up during the game while many others were sitting on their duffs watching in peace. I remember one of his first games, if not the first one, about 12-13 years ago against Buffalo. The crowd went nuts and the Rangers chants started again and the building was alive again. I'm not into the crappy music being played at the arenas these days (crappy in my opinion that is), I'm not into cheesiness, but at the same time, often something needs to be done to get the fans going and he had a knack for a while of doing that. He thinks he's a celebrity? Fine, who cares if he can get the fans going at a game.

And as to Squishy's point - yeah, a guy walking around in a headress having everyone bang his tom tom was cool back in the day. I miss the Chief.

I miss the Chief too. I got to talk to him at the Play by Play one day for about an hour..that was great.

I think Larry is great. The crowd still gets pumped up when he dances..it's fun, he's not hurting anybody, it's a little hokey, but who cares? You go to a game to have fun.

Yeah, Larry started in 97-98 (and so did the homo larry chants, in section 407). For awhile I blamed him for our 7 year playoff-less drought.

For the record I find the "Potvin Sucks" and subsequent "So do you" chants way more annoying than Larry.

Again its not how he dances or why he dances that i have the problem with. The problem is he thinks he's a star. He really is a tool. Ill be honest every time he dances i pray that he falls down those stairs. Its not a far drop but just far enough to be funny without him dieing or getting really hurt.

How does that effect your life?

If he thinks he's a star fine, good for him. There's plenty of 'stars' who don't deserve it, Larry would be low on my list.

I don't understand the "he thinks he's a star' attitude. I don't personally know him, so I can't that he actually thinks that. And if he did, who really cares what a person thinks about himself. If that's what gives him confidence to get up there and dance each night in front of 10,000-18,200 people, then so be it.

Personally, I think the Potvin sucks chants are great...I get annoyed when people say "so do you." As for Larry, I have no problem with it...I love that he dances- it gets the crowd going...Don't understand how you can hate that nor do I understand the "he thinks hes a star" attitude...

Potvin sucks is annoying because it's incessant, and most of the people saying it have no idea who Potvin was or why Rangers fans hate him. But you're right about 'so do you', that started in my section and to be honest it's like nails on a chalkboard.
