WJC U-20 Thread

Rosters are going to start to be released over the next few weeks, so I figure we can get some discussion going for this, obviously including Flyers prospects as well. JVR will be a given for the US team, Kevin Marshall is a possibility for Canada. Sweden released it's roster today and it did not include Mario Kempe (Jacob Markstrom was on it obviously).

Edit: Kempe is apparently too old. My mistake.

What does Jacob Markstrom have to do with us?

Is Bourdon a longshot?

Any chance Sunshine makes the Swedish team as a backup? Is he young enough to play in the U18 tourney? When does that one take place, btw?

Maybe Bodrov for the Russians, or is he too old as well?

edit: What about Lehtivuori? Is he too old? HockeyDB doesn't want to load for me right now so I can't check these things.

Bodrov is too old.

Sunshine did not make the team, Mark Owuya is the backup.

Exactly. It would take a great camp for Marshall or Bourdon to make it.

You should be able to find it somewhere on TSN. I know for a fact there is a schedule and USA plays Canada on New Year's Eve at 7:30

Lehtivuori is 20, he is too old.

Switzerland went down last year and tries to get up again, in a home-tournament in Herisau (hometown of Ducks-goalie Hiller). I didn't hear if they asked the Flyers to send Sbisa over, that would of course be a huge blow-up for the Swiss team.

At least last year, most of the games were broadcast on NHL Network in the United States.

I think it was usually the TSN feed.

Unless he is with Lethbridge, Sbisa will stay in North America. He doesn't really have anything prove in the WJC Div. 1... he clearly stood out last season with Weber, they just couldn't help but get relegated. They didn't have anything around them.

In breaking news, James van Reimsdyk is on the US WJC team.

John Carlson (whom so many people here would have liked to see us draft) is not.

Huh. I didn't realize that some exhibition games were being played in Kingston. I wonder if my mom will go check out her native Americans....

The NHL network is going to be broadcasting all of the USA and Canada preliminary games as well as all the medal rounds for the next 3 years. They are also going to broadcast the women's Quest games leading up to the Olympics. Here's the entire story

Canada's WJC roster was released, and Kevin Marshall fails to make the team.

So, does that officially make JVR the only Flyer who's participating in the WJC, or are there any other possibilities still left?

Looks like JVR is the only one, yes. Kind of disappointing considering how people like the laud the Flyers for such prospect depth.

I still think we are pretty deep with prospects, just not under 20 years old.

This year is the first year in a long time in which Team Canada wasn't represented by a Flyers prospect. I doubt I'll watch a game

Game over, man, game over? You don't have to root for Team USA, but you can at least check out JVR. I'll be doing both.

I dont think Canada has the talent this year to win it. Hopefully im proved wrong. I either want Canada to win, or JVR to rip Canada up and win.
