My first proposal so don't rip me to bad

To NYR

Kovalchuk

To ATL:

Dubinsky
Roszval
Prucha
1st round pick 09 conditional if he resigns if not the a 3rd round pick

Kovy would look great in ranger blue alongside playing with his country-mate zherdev. Or have someone like gomez to feed him the puck. And I don't think I need to talk bout his ceiling plus winnig a championship in NY would make him a legend

For ATL. They get a awsome yong star that can play with almost anyone and make them better. A physical foward that fights. Has been putting up great numbers In his short carrer and can fill the young allstar to build with. Rozy would bacicaly make it cap wise eligable for the rangers. Is a puck moving defenceme who has been o our top lie for 3 years. Prucha is an old 30 goal scorer who needs a change of scenery I love pruu he gives 100 percent every night and u always kno when he's out.

Thoughts?

1. Not enough going to Atlanta IMO
2. I wouldn't trade Dubinsky for 1 year of Kovy.

Well said, sums it up pretty much.

I think Dubinsky, Staal, and a 1st would probably be the starting point for Kovalchuk if we traded for him right now, and I'm not too keen on giving that much up for a year and a half of guaranteed Kovy.

We'll all be surprised how little Kovy gets in return, especially if everyone plays the waiting game and forces the hand on Waddell, which would be smart.

The return they got for Hossa sounds like a lot, but it really isn't, and Kovalchuk is a better player than Hossa.

zero interest in 33+ defensemen with fat contracts due.

Kovalchuk, Exelby
for
Dubinsky, Staal

LOL, we're not giving up that much for Kovalchuk and Exelby.

I'd give you Dubinsky, Sanguinetti, and a 1st.

You're not getting Staal.

Yeah, I know that. I just tired of seeing crap offers made for Kovalchuk every single day here. I figured I'll start making equally over the top counter-offers.

That will work great if cap space goes down next year.

Something is missing.. How about cap space this year? Give me another one of your genius trades props to make it work cap wise.

Me too.

I see the same people making the crap offers as well, and it gets annoying.

Realistically though, no one is going to trade for Kovy this early, and it's doubtful that someone will trade for him at this year's deadline, meaning that he'll most likely get traded at next year's deadline. His value will be significantly decreased by then, being that no GM is going to mortgage their future for an impending UFA who wants a huge payhike into the Ovechkin/Crosby/Malkin territory of contracts.

It's sad, but Waddell has no choice to hold onto him until he can't get anymore out of him. If you trade him too early, it signals the white flag, and that's going to turn fans away from an already struggling fan-base. If you trade him too late, you get too little in return.

Total Catch-22.

Kovalchuk will get dealt at next year's deadline, for a little more than what they got for Hossa. Then, he won't re-sign with the team that acquires him, and I think the Rangers will find a way to get him. I think they will, and should do whatever it takes short of trading Henrik.

Rozsival was added for cap reasons. Still a crap offer, though.

He is 30, btw., and not 33.

Isn't he getting booed on a nightly basis nowadays? I suspect that has to do with someone wanting to pawn him, and his awful contract, on the Thrashers.

This trade is garbo. Dubi's not going anywhere for a rental. The kid's highly valued by the organization and could be a future captain

He's signed through next year so he can't re-sign until July 1st. That's going to make it difficult to get a 1st in '09 dependant on something you won't know about until after the pick is used.

Besides, you'd have to give up that first no matter what.

lol i'd trade Dubinsky for Kovalchuk...
Dubinsky, Sanguinetti, Roszival (cap implications), 2nd or 1st iunno
for
Kovalchuk, Exelby (maybe another piece coming back from atlanta as well)
If we resign Kovy that deal would be awesome.
Lets face it we still have Drury and Gomez.

I mean lets face it.

Naslund-Gomez-Voros
Kovalchuk-Drury-Zherdev
Dawes-Korpikoski-Callahan
Sjostrom-Betts-Orr

Not Bad.

As a Rangers fan, no way should they trade Dubi for a Rental.

They are just under the cap right now, with Dubi, herdev, Cally, and Dawes all RFA's next season. If Kovalchuk comes to NY, he adds a $6.4 cap hit for this year and next. With the cap going down next year, the club completely ties thier hands up here.

Unless, Rozy's big salary hit goes the other way...but even with that, I personally wouldn't trade Dubinsky there. He is one of the best players on the team night after night...and he's still a kid. No question right now Kovalchuk is the better player, but in another season or two I think this comes back to haunt the Rangers. Dubi is a more complete player at this stage of the game, and in another season or two I don't think I would even do that deal straight up!

Kovalchuk isn't really a rental. He's signed through next season.

Terrible trade for Atlanta. Right now, Rozsival has negative value and Prucha has little value. So it's basically Dubinsky for Kovalchuk, who is signed through next year. As I said, terrible trade for Atlanta.

Exactly.

If he were traded now (he won't be), he'd fetch a ton. Comparing a hypothetical move now of Kovalchuk to a deadline trade of the impending UFA Hossa last spring is apples to oranges.

And for the record, Kovalchuk is not a better "player" than Hossa.

He is a more dynamic, and more productive sniper, without question.

Hossa is the better all-around player.

That typically doesn't matter much around here, but it does in the real-life NHL.
