The Sens would take this deal and run while the Wings would **** on this deal and say no.

If you are thinking in terms of cap space, then it's fine, but I'm sure any team would love to have heatley or Alfredsson [who would fit SO WELL in Detroit].

Watching Alfredsson reminds you of Zetterberg and vice-versa. The way they both keep the puck to themselves for like 2 minutes is just amazing to watch.

I think the OP doesn't realize that Zetterberg will be resigned, likely for around 7 mil, the same as Spezza. If Spezza was 6 million a year and Zetterberg was looking for 8 million a year it might be a different story, but as contracts stand now, big no from Detroit.

Detroit probably want Zetterberg to sign a deal like Datsuk's, But i have my suspicion that Henrik want's more. He does deserve it.

Detroit wouldn't do either of these deals.

1) Datsyuk and Zetterberg are both better fits with the system that the Red Wings play than Spezza would be.

2) Datsyuk and Zetterberg are both simply better players, regardless of the system in place.

it has a lot to due with that development and mentoring. As long as they listen and follow instructions there, they will always over achieve in there system. If they are great, they will make them greater! Thats what you get from Scotty Bowman..

Counter Proposal:
If the wings can sign Zetterberg to a similar contract to Spezza then

To Ottawa: Zetterberg, DET 2nd, 3rd

To Detroit: Spezza, SJ 1st, OTT 1st

I don't think first round picks work the same on Detroit as they do on other teams. Zetterberg himself is a 7th round pick, is he not?

The Wings have probably the best scouts in the game, they don't need an excess of 1sts to strike gold, and no amount of convincing by the Senators would allow management to deal Zetterberg for Spezza.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And if you're the defending champions, chances are it ain't broke.

I think if you gave Detroit the choice of a 1st round pick or a 7th round, they would take the 1st round

I would rather use one of the 1sts in a package for Bouwmeester.

I don't think the Detroit Red Wings would want to dismantle a team that is playing so well. The only position the Wings are interested in upgrading is goalie. Osgood has not been playing bad though so I don't see them taking part in any type of blockbuster trade.

No no no no never ever no no. The sens would need to massivily over pay because Detroit doesn't need anything! They don't even want anything! (aside from cap space... which zetterberg gives us right now at 2.5 mil)
