Karl Alzner

First NHL game, and he gets Mike Green type minutes or close to that.

i think his value has increased after the Atlanta game.

His value already pretty high, he's a highly touted top 10 pick who was captain of the Canadian WJC team and was only in the AHL due to cap reasons.

I think his value is honestly exactly the same (also it was one game).

No way is he getting traded. They're hoping he can end up being an awesome 2nd pairing defense man, i think. Don't think they expect him to be a top pairing guy, but you never know. He was very mature and defensively responsible when he was drafted. That was what...2-3 years ago?

Well, his value stands as a 5th overall pick who captained the WJC team and is projected to be a great top pairing shutdown defenseman.

One game doesn't change that. Even if he played badly, it wouldn't have changed his value.

We're more than a year after the draft, he would not be moved for such a price, therefore will not be moved at all.

He's going to be a top-pairing guy.

Probably that exact pairing as well. Caps are loaded in the back end at the minor / junior level. If Alzner pans out, with Green, Schultz, Godfrey and co .... should be interesting.

Add in Carlson to the mix. I think he has a much better shot at a good NHL career then Godfrey at this point (I see him more as a third pairing guy with good pp skills) and will probably be better then Schultz in the long run.

I started a Carlson thread in the OHL section not too long ago and multiple people who are not Caps fans said that after watching him play in the O this year, that he is either the equal of, or slightly below Bogosian and Pietrangelo. Their contention was that if he'd have played in the OHL in his draft year, he'd have gone top ten. That should be enough to have Caps fans salivating.

I think the preseason did that for most of us. Seriously, this guy is looking like a bigger steal than Mike Green, hopefully he keeps it up.

He may end up a better player than one of those two; I agree.

Carlson was extremely impressive in TC and outplayed half of the Caps' starting D, IMO.

He's going to be an excellent multi-tool defenseman.

Does Coburn for Zhitnik qualify for exile?
