Does Gainey roll the dice and offer up a few of them, plus say a guy like O'Byrne or Latendresse to land him for the playoff drive in the 100th anniversary season?

I'd say he just might if and when this whole Sundin scenario plays out. (I am willing to bet he he winds up back in in leafland and then the Leafs trade him at the deadline for the prospects and draftpicks they should have gotten last year but that's a different topic!)

Anyway, IMO, the Habs need another solid, puck-moving d-man if they have any chance of being a cup contender and Bowmeester would fill that role nicely!
Guy LT is unofficially untouchable as trade material as he is the next in line in the Rocket/Beliveau/Lafleur lineage

hmmm.... GuyLT is not a bad nickname... rhymes with BLT

JBO alone is realistic at deadline. Maybe O'Byrne + good AHL prospect forward + draft pick for him.

Our whole future for a UFA Defenceman and a guy who has never really lived up to his billing?

Read original post concerning the UFA part. As for the rest I'd take Horton over Plekanec in a heartbeat and IMO 2 Kostityns = Jay Bo.

Plek, Kostitsyn brother's and throw in a defensive prospect, sign J-bo to an extension prior to the deal though

Intriguing, Horton is a big right handed goal scoring center...

He's better on the wing.

That's the key part.

Personally I would think Jacques Martin would prefer a guy like Higgins who is more responsible defensively. Just a thought.

If signing JBo to an extension is that easy, let him go UFA and sign him next summer, that way we keep our good young players.

To me you don't trade a blue chip young player for a rental unless he is Crosby or Ovechkin. A 1st and a couple of mid range prospects is the max, that's about what Hossa cost.

Funny, last summer some of you had S.Kost up there as a 90 point guy in the near future, now you are ready to throw him and his brother out for a rental. Your opinion changes as often as your underwear.

I still like both brothers, but if I could get Jay Bo for them, I'd do it wihtout even blinking. I think the problem is more the people that take these threads seriously. Its only speculation as we all know this will most likely never happen.

That would be a bad trade even without the contract situation. When you consider that both players are under control for 5 and 3 years it would be a royal fleecing. We are talking Jay Bouwou freaking Meister, not Bobby Orr or Ray Bourque. If he was that great, Florida would not have missed the playoffs all 6 years he's been there.

Yeah, as we all know, it only takes 1 good player to make the playoffs, duh.

He's not really the reason why Florida missed the playoffs...

You're right. Luongo Jokinen Horton Vokoun Huselius are definitely not good players.

...and if he came here he wouldn't be the reason we win the cup either.

Just because he wears another jersey some think that he's such a superstar and would suddenly win us a cup..

This is why none of you are currently GM for the Canadiens...

He did say something constructive. He asked you what the lines would be if that trade where to happen. Its a valid question. Counter proposals are NOT the only "constructive" replies to this kind of thread. Stop being so condescending.

The actual reason why we aren't GM is because Bob Gainey is. Not because of dumb proposals on internet forums.

I don't hate it, but I think Bouwmeester is a little bit overrated, unsigned and will not sign for Markov money and I don't think they will give him more money than Markov.

I don't hate to see for the first time somebody said we can trade kost brothers, but I think they're young and the members of our future 1st line.

So, that give us Plekanec for Horton. Florida will not do that unless we give something else with a good value, lik a young defenseman and a pick. Maybe a possibility, but a small one.

Maybe more chance of a trade with Edmonton where problem are big too.

Horton - 6 years @ 4 million/year
Bouwmeester - 1 year @ 4,875,000

We get size and skill in the middle and a franchise defenseman, we call up Chipchura and D'Agostini to fill in the gaps. We also get an instant leadership boost.

The only problem would be Bouwmeester's contract ending next year. The habs could negociate re-signing him for a similar price for the coming years.

note: I don't necessarily want to get rid of these specific players, don't start a flame war. I know alot of people will think I'm crazy, but I think this moves adresses the core problems of leadership and defense.

Thoughts?
Get rid of Higgins...keep Pleks.
