Burke talked to Gainey last year about Grabovski.

According to Burke at his press conference. Video is at tsn.ca

That caught me off guard. Grabs just doesn't really strike me as a Burke type of player. Just my opinion of course.

What do you think we could have gotten back for Grabs?

Yeah I saw that too, it was last year before the trade deadline I wonder? or after in the offseason?

We didn't get a whole lot for him you can think Gainey would have rather given him to a team we will never see often rather then giving him to Toronto they offerd something that wasnt a whole lot.

Dealing Grabs to Toronto was a bad move but many here will tell you Gainey doesn't make bad moves.

It wasnt a bad move. Grabovski did nothing for the Canadiens during his time there. It was better that he was sent to Toronto, now he has the possibility to get good ice time and develop his game.

Burke was asking about Grabovski?

"Hi Bob, the Ducks roster is pretty much set right now. Any chance you could forward him to this address in Toronto? I can collect him from there soon."

Oh horsehockey!!!! There was a chance that Grabs was going to Russia if we didn't trade him and the entire team hates the little punk. He'll wear down this season.

Gainey was too classy to waive Dandenault, and Begin to make room for Getzlaf, I guess.

Yes many teams line up to give us star players for our marginal malcontents.

I think you missed the point. Its not that fact he was dealt that made it bad, it was where he was dealt to. A division rival, and players like Grabs seem to always own us when we play against them.

To be fair, that has only happened in one out of two games.

If we traded him out of the conference would anyone be asking "why didn't we send him to the leafs?"

No it's great that Toronto got him and he cost us 2 points already, Gainey didn't want those 2 points, they were dirty and smelled of cabbage.

Gainey got a 2nd and a prospect, who was picked in the 5th round less than a month before, for a 24 year old former 5th round pick who had 9 points in 27 career NHL games and 74 points in 78 career AHL games. That's amazing.

Zidlicky was traded for a 2nd and a prospect picked in the 4th round.
Brad Stuart was traded for a 2nd and a 4th
Hal Gill was traded for a 2nd and a 5th
Richard Zednik was traded for a 2nd
Brent Sopel was traded for a 2nd and a 4th
Biron and Huet were traded for 2nds

For a player that has proven nothing, pretty decent value in my opinion.

There was no point in keeping a player that wasn't gonna play and was already causing conflicts on the team.

Toronto put him on their first/second line because of lack of "skilled" players.

He wouldn't have had the same opportunity here, good for Toronto and good for Grabs. Good Also for the Habs got something in return for someone that we wouldn't/couldn't use.

It was a good move. He was the only person not liked in the dressing room and his team mates did not respect him. That's when you deal a player away. That being established, how much can you get for an unproven prospect?? Your high regard for the player's potential isn't enough to land you anything over the top. Yet we still got essentially 2nd and 5th round picks, which in my opinion is not a bad return.

In the a = b = c world of draft picks, you could say Grabovski is worth more than Huet!
