25 games. 2 vs MTL, 4 vs PIT, SJ, 2 vs. ANA, BUF, 2 vs WSH, 2 vs NJ, BOS, CHI

It's a very difficult stretch, and I think come mid-January we'll truly see which direction this team is going in. We're going to need to start executing when we have a chance to put a team away (PP with 5 minutes left up a goal) and holding on to our leads.

Can a mod change that to the next 2 months in the thread title? Didn't realize we played Pitt 2x, ANA and BOS at the end of January...even more difficult than I thought.

Mmmm I must say the Rangers are a fun team to root for but their dominance in the standings sure comes with a false sense of security.

Pretty much all the teams in the division have played 4-5 games less than the Rangers. They win those games and the Atlantic is a clutterbuck...

lets take into consideration those other teams r counting us as tough opponents down that stretch. boston is a great team this year but we played well with them and took them in the shootout in that 1st game vs them. pit is good, but i think boston is better. i think its all from game to game really. san jose is amazing record-wise but the game is not out of reach if we decide to play 3 periods...except i dont think we'll beat them, unfortunately. we did play amazing against detroit so im confident we'll show up vs sj...maybe take a game into overtime at least. jersey is playing well right now but we have proven success against them were just a better team than them...plus the teams they have played in their little win streak havent exactly been tests as they let florida come back with 8 seconds left in the 3rd (worse than our last minute let downs) honestly, anaheim is a toss up they r hot/cold its either or. tonight they won only 1-0...its just washington DOES NOT LOSE AT HOME and we have to go there

anyway my analysis here is as much as i feel a false sense of security with this team, they really r better than we all think they r and u can count on teams playing their best against us cuz as of tonight were on top of the conference so i can tell u boston is worried about us too as those games' points will be huge for both teams

11-11-3 is my mini prediction here
The total record - if they can attain the above record (which may be difficult) is then 28-18-5 = 61 points with 31 games left

They will have to play well here just to play .500 hockey during this very tough stretch. And I do believe the annual frustrating 6 game+ losing streak is concealed here somewhere. But then again - the Rangers seem to bring a better game against better opposition (in the East at least) if that is any consolation.
Simply, we need to light a fire under our two offensively underachieving 7 million Dollar men if we are to be succesful down the line. They have combined for a meager 28 points so far (Drury 26 GP, Gomez 21 GP) and this is just not enough. Add on Ryan Callahans as the 3rd link in our latest 1st line with 9 points and you get 37 points in total. All to an annual cost of 14.982.143 Dollars. Our "new" second line of Näslund-Dubinsky-Zherdev have on the other hand produced 59 points (in different line combos). All to a cost of 7.133.333 dollars. And I could add their dismal +/- stats into this as well - as the trend here is similar - but I won´t.
Here is THE REAL PROBLEM with The Ranger team this year. Plain and simple. Gomez and Drury need to step up and perform better offensively to be able to motivate their ridiculous paychecks. They may not be the ones that were offered these levels of salary - but there is still a word spelled accountability as they have accepted being over 25% of the teams salary and wear a "C" an "A" on their true blue jerseys. It would be interesting to find a scoring winger to complement them better, but still...

A lot will depend on the Rangers PP and PK. If the PP remains dormant for this stretch than i see it being a rough one with them losing a lot of 1 goal games. The Rangers are a very solid 5 on 5 team and i don't fear any team that they play at even strength. But some of those teams have deadly PP's so the PK will really be tested, as will Henrik. The PP HAS to improve and the PK HAS to remain solid for the Rangers to stay at the top. Call me delusional but is honestly see them coming out of this stretch still battling Boston for the top spot in the East. I think 15 wins in these next 25 games is very doable.

Even tho the Kings are kinda struggling they are a better team than last year. Anyone remember the horrid game from last season at MSG.

Honestly, I feel like this is a very good team that is very young and still learning. And, as a result, they're constantly "playing to the level of their competition" - as evidenced both by the most recent OT wins against FLA and TB as well as the earlier OTLs against DET and BOS. I think that this upcoming stretch will be very good for them and teach them how to play a complete game, regardless of their record coming out of it. They may well wind up with a record right around .500 (I would actually predict 3 games or so over), but I think they'll be a better team when the stretch is done and be much more dangerous when the POs come 'round.
