I think ATL would do this in a heartbeat.

good. Bergfors will never get a fair shake in NJ under Sutter and Sutter isn't going anywhere. I think it's 50/50 whether or not he's an NHL top 6 guy. Atlanta might want to take that chance since they'd have pretty much nothing to lose.

From a value perspective, probably too much for Exelby.

However the Thrashers do not have enough toughness and size, and this deal only makes them smaller and softer now and in the future.

However, if you want Matthieu Schneider we could arrange something.

Greene and Exelby are about the same in my book.

nj could get schubert from ottawa for almost nothing.
they could also try to convince ottawa to trade them smith, but that would likely not happen until the offseason.

Is Bergfors New Jersey's Schremp?

More/less. Bergfors is still very very young, he was brought over to North America quite young, but he's been here for a few years. Had a great rookie year in the AHL kind of declined, made the team last year, but got hurt after one game.

This year he's been sporadic in the lineup, not earning much time. Sutter's not playing the kids upfront if he doesn't have to, or is deciding they aren't good enough.

Wouldn't do this if I was Atlanta.

Value is a little too much for Exelby, but it leaves them thin on physical defenders.

His worth to the team is far more than his worth on the trading block.

14 points in 10 games for Lowell. Bergfors experience in the NHL may have helped him understand the game better in the A. He'll get his chance in New Jersey, he's only 21. Next year if Gionta walks, he's got a spot on the team.

Hell no. Bergfors is an NHL player now and if he was on a different team he would be in the NHL. I don't see why we trade our #1 prospect for a guy who would be our 3rd best defensive defensmen. We need a puck moving defensmen and to throw Greene in when he finally started showing the offensive potential we origianlly expected from him-is just silly.

Lou has no interest in Schneider's price tag.

Lou commented on the situation when Schneider was on waivers

Just curious as an outsider to NJ, what's wrong with Colin White? I think he's a much more intimidating d-man than Exelby, but I really don't see him play more than a handful of games each year.

Eh, White is the current whipping boy. He has been for a while, but it's worse now that his vision was damaged. He's solid in his own end for the most part and has been surprisingly good at moving and shooting the puck, but the mistakes he does make tend to result in really good scoring chances against and he makes more of them now, after his injury.

That was Lou's comment on his full season price tag. Schneider for the last 1/4 of the season (and presumably playoffs) at ~1.4 million is a little easier to handle from a financial aspect. Even when the Devils passed on Schneider for "free", I figured he'd be a prime target come deadline time.

If we're talking at a reduced price, and a trade later on in the season, I could see Lou changing his opinion

I wouldn't mind him in NJ

Not to mention all the cap space we'll have when Brodeur, Rolston, Greene and Holik are put on retroactive LTIR.

Schneider's cap hit is about 4.22M as of right now and about 1.4M at the deadline. LTIR relief from Brodeur (assume he comes back March 1st), Rolston (expected to play thursday), Holik (practicing, expected back in a week), and Greene (still 1-2 weeks away) will give about 5.3M in cap space. Add that to the 1.55M in cap space from the beginning of the season and NJ will have about 6.85M in cap space to acquire Schneider.

Martin-Schneider
Oduya-Salvador
White-Salmela

Pretty solid top 6.
