I wonder what the cost to acquire him would be. At first I thought it was not worth it...then I saw he is only a 6.5 mil cap hit(same as Wade faking Redden!!!) and signed for a year and a half. I'm sure he'd fit great with Koivu and Tanguay.

It's realy doable. It's a matter in witch both team has to want to danse. Kovalchuk in not happy and if he is happy, man he has a good poker face. IMHO, he wants out this year! So I give them Higgins, Latendresse Bouillon with a 1st in 09/10 for Kovalchuk

I agree with not giving up Price, but Pacioretty I'd give up in a heartbeat for a player of Kovy's talent. As much as I'm high on Pac, we need to keep in mind that he has not proven anything yet but a good pre-season and we all know that doesn't amount to too much (just take a look at Latendresse, which so many are down on).

No, not enough as he still has one year left to his contract. If he was a UFA to be at the end of this season, perhaps.

I'm thinking that both Kostitsyn's would have to be included in a deal... and I'd do it.

If both Kostitsyn's are included then we have to negotiate a new contract with Kovalchuk. If he agrees to a 4-5 year contract then I think we should pull the trigger. Kovalchuk is an elite player.

From the Habs' side I would say yes to that. It's a lot but Koval is MEGA.

I'd rather try to take advantage of Morrow's injury and the state of Dallas. Sure Morrow wouldn't be able to help us this season, but if we could acquire him while he's on the shelf, for cheaper and since Dallas can't win a game, it'd help us contend and bring an element to the team we're direly missing.
I thought about the same thing. Dallas needs help right away with Moreau out for the season. Offer Higgins, a pick and another player and it could work. Moreau is a leader and could help us in the series.

No way the Stars trade Morrow... I'm 100% positive that they'd rather miss the playoffs then trade the heart and soul of their team.

besides, i thought players couldn't be traded while on the IR?

he will gut the team, and bob won't do that, and bad time of our development to do that.

Plus, Higgins and Chipchura are worth alot according to some people. A future J.Selke winner and future captain + A 30-40 goals scorer, tireless worker with amazing 2-way skills. I think it worth something.

Add to that 2 of the best Habs prospects on Defense and a first rounder... The package is not too shabby

If Atlanta wants to rebuild, it's a package that makes you think IMO.

shhhhhhhhhh.

S.Kostitsyn according to your judgement is a flop.

You'd trade away pretty much Montreal's entire future for 1 player? :| THANK GOD YOU AREN'T GM.

Some of your trade proposals are WHACK :|

What are you people smoking? :|

O'Byrne
Kovalev
Weber
1st Rnder 09/10
2nd rnd 09/10

The only way I see Montreal getting Kovalchuk is if they somehow acquire a 1st rnd pick from 1 of the bottom 5 teams and trade that pick to Atalanta, so they'd have a shot at Tavares. The chances of that happening are slim to none.

Would I like to see Kovalchuk in a Habs jersey? Yes, but not at the cost of what some of you have been saying. Kostitysn bothers? No thanks. McD? No thanks. Subban go nuts. Chipchura? Umm no.

This acquisition will only happen, like I said if the Habs are able to get a 1st rndr from the bottom 5 teams.

I don't think so. Atlanta needs to win now. They may not be there in five years. If you give them enough young players to allow them to compete then you will get Kovalchuk.

This is a massive overpayment. We will become the new Thrashers with this trade.
