I would not have suspended him, let him play it would have made their game tonight more interesting.

Last I checked, that's not illegal.
Ridiculous?

You think the league should tolerate their players making misogynistic comments? How about racist remarks? Should that be okay too?

I for one applaud the league for acting quickly and decisively in this case. His remarks were embarrassing to the league, embarrassing to his teammates and incredibly disrespectful to Elisha Cuthbert and Rachel Hunter.

Last I checked the canadian media is always whining over him not wanting to do interviews..

when he is nice enough to give them one

they cry over him saying two words.

and how does it look horrible on the league

perhaps if he was a stanley cup champion and shot himself in the leg at a nightclub, it would look bad on the league

but it just looks bad on himself.. thats it

If Randy Jones only gets 2 games for almost turning Patrice Bergeron into a vegetable, Avery should get no more than a hefty fine. I personally think that what he said about Europeans and French Canadians a few years ago was a lot worse.

While I do condone the racial remarks just as much as his sexist remarks, I think today's the suspension was a compounding of all the little ***** he has done over the last few years where he didn't even get a slap on the wrist.

I do think the comments were sexist and objectifying of women without a shadow of a doubt, which leads me to believe that Avery really did make comments about Blake's Cancer during the Leafs/Rangers games last year.

This guy is a cancer to not only the Dallas Stars but the entire league. It's really a shame given that he is actually a decent hockey player.

Avery is an idiot and is now running out of places to play. His comments were improper and even his own teammates are now getting tired of his foolishness.

I cant believe some members here is trying to defend him.

Even Turco, Richards and even the Dallas GM didnt approved what he said.

According to a poster on the main board Turco ripped into Avery in the post-game interviews.

Quote:
- Calls him an embarrassment to an org. that Turco/Modano/Morrow, etc, have tried so hard to build into a classy org.

- Avery not welcome back to the dressing room.

- It isn't the first incident where Avery has clashed with the folks in the dressing room.

But you'd love him if he were on your team.

That wouldn't have been fair though... to the guy(s) compiling the stats for the game. Just think about how many hits would be delivered and having to note who hit who each time. Not to mention Phaneuf would have led the league in giveaways after tonight, I can hear the commentary now: "...and the puck goes round the boards to Phaneuf, he chips the puck up ice but his clearing attempt is right into Avery's feet, Avery with his head down looking for the puck... WHAMMO!"

Except Avery would be flyin' to the bench instead of looking for the puck.

The stupid thing the NHL did was suspend him before the game, they should've waited til today to suspend him. I couldn't wait to watch the game to see what happened to Avery but once I saw he got suspended I didn't even bother watching it.

I agree with you.
It was good to see the league act quickly on what was said, he's a classless act and if I was part of the NHL that is not a person I would want to have in my league.

We'll see what happens, many believe his day's are numbered as a Star, I just hope his day's are numbered as a player. Period. Never liked him, he was always in crap for something and I get that he's an agitator and what not, but look at other agitator's in the league, they do not step over that line like Avery does.

the real issue with Avery here is : Does he serve any real purpose to the perception and function as well as marketability of the game

Do people go to games to see him ? Buy Sean Avery Jerseys ? And does he help his team on the ice ?

I think people do go to Star games to see Avery in the hope he gets his face caved in, not everyone, but I'm pretty sure a little bunch, does Sean Avery sell Jerseys ? yoooou betcha, in NY and Dallas, he was a pretty popular player ... or so I think until he went Metro-Sexual on some fans ...

Does he help his team on the ice ? Well ... he puts up points and he is a 4 million dollar guy ...

I think it'll be tough to keep him out of the league, but I do think some form of punishment must be given to him to make sure he doesn't come out of this with any form of additional notoriety.

Force him to attend league directed anger management, hit his wallet, do something significant.

Knowing of Don Cherry, I expect that will be because he is still ranting about it.

This kind of crap is said on the ice all the time. Avery's biggest mistake was saying it on a national news broadcast. If he would have used a little bit of intelligence and said it on the ice. Nothing would have been done about about it.

As for the posters claiming that Avery is misogynistic. I think that would be stretching it a little bit. As I've heard a lot of guys take shots at their ex's. I don't agree with it, but it doesn't automatically label them a woman hater. I would be more inclined to question their maturity level.

Agreed. I frankly think that he didn't want to play because Phaneuf would have filled him in. I also think Iginla would have filled him in and maybe Bertuzzi would have as well.

People forget that Avery made comments saying that he doesn't know why the NHL advertises a guy like Iginla so much. I bet Iggy had something in mind for him.

It looked to pre-meditated that I honestly think that Avery was trying to get out of last night's game.
I normally don't justify this idiot by commenting about anything that he does, but he just seemed like he was scared to play which is why he made the comment.

I thought it was pretty awesome. The NHL could use a little off-ice drama.
