Gionta is working hard right now. He's only improving his value with the work ethic he's putting together. Doesn't hurt to score goals either, which he IS.
Oduya is a solid defenseman and has the potential to be a #2 defenseman on any team.
Madden is a top shutdown center. Any team in the league would be lucky to have him.
That pick is going to be a Farm-Killer. If you want even the second overall pick, prepare to lose your Franchise player.
You highly overrate draft picks, as do most people on here. No GM is silly enough to give up their best proven NHLer for the best potential draft pick in this years draft.
A package containing three of;
- mid-to-top tier propects
- picks
- roster players that upgrade certain positions
A lot.
I'm a Boston fan. I can't see Boston being stupid enough to move all the way up to #1. If they did I would guess the package would be:
1. Boston's 2009 #1
2. Phil Kessel
I don't even know if that's enough. I'm a big (pun intended) Hedman fan. IMO, he's be the best defensive prospect since Chris Pronger. (This is no shoot at Phaneuf, I'm a fan)
IMO, They won't. The top 2 picks this year remind me of the Malkin-AO draft. Pittsburgh and Washington were not trading those picks.
But, HFBoards likes to play make-believe.
Yeah. We're looking at a phenom forward and a phenom defenseman. It's less than likely that the organizations with the first two picks will even think about dealing them away.
The draft is two-deep at the top end this year, with franchise players at forward and defense.
So after the draft lottery, the value of the #1 overall pick is probably the #2 pick plus a sweetener.
On the one hand, that sweetener won't necessarily have to be very much. If the team sitting at #1 values both players and does not have a glaring positional need, while the team at #2 has a strong preference, a sweetener might be enough to give the team at #2 the peace of mind of certainty. The team sitting at #1 might be content to take either player at #2, and get a nice asset in the bargain.
Yet any team outside the top two probably isn't going to be in the conversation, with the kind of drop-off that seems to exist this year.
So over 30 years ago you would have done your franchise goalie for Daigle?
Honestly guys I dont care how good....you dont go proven for unproven
daigle was in '93 bud.
and yeah that would have looked like crap. I could see movement this year between the 3-7 positions (something like atlanta trading the 5th pick plus lehtinen for the 3rd overall and a later pick) but I really doubt any team would give up the chance of tavares and/or hedman, theyre just too good. Not Crosby good, but probably a notch above stamkos, and tbay wasnt going to move that pick at all.

AMEN....I love the guys offering up Luongo or one of Ottawa's top 3. God I hope you all become GMs....the Panthers might actually win then
if ottawa has a top 5 pick, they probably keep the pick. If they dont, the only way they get that pick is by trading spezza. So, i'd say ottawa is out.
Sens wouldn't have to move Spezza to move up 3 spots in the draft.
I've already done this from the point of view of the Wings trading for one of the top two picks (to choose Hedman) and my deal was:
Filppula and Kronwall from the roster(helps clear cap space to have $$ to sign Zetts, Franzen, Hudler and hopefully Hossa)
+
Kindl and Emmerton(these two are sure fire NHLers. Some rate Kindl higer than Ericsson and Emmerton has all the tools)
+
2009 1st.
