The worst team in the NHL at the trade deadline will be looking to rebuild and this trade would require them to trade their biggest rebuilding piece for a prospect, a draft pick or two, and three UFAs. Conversely, it would also require the Canucks, a team that will likely be fighting for a playoff spot, to trade away three of its most important players for a draft pick that may or may not turn out to be the first overall pick. The amount of uncertainty surrounding this deal makes it unpalatable for both sides.

I would do that for sure if my team had the 1st overall, assuming the Sedins and Ohlund re-signed.

and as soon as you add three skilled roster players to the worst team in the league, they're probably not gonna be the worst team in the league

LOL, it's pretty much trading two 80+ players, a #1-3 D-man and a 2nd rounder to trade up 15-29 picks.

If the Sedins and Ohlund were not UFA's I still wouldn't do it. Why does everyone wanna trade away the twins?

for 1st overall.

is this a large enough package for the first. considering if we trade these key players our 1st will probably drop to around the 10thish.

How about we just trade Sedin, Sedin & Ohlund today for picks and prospects so we can 'earn' the 1st overall?

...

Yo, let's do it, and draft some kid from nowhere. Surprise the hell out of Tavares.

Setting aside the whole UFA thing..

Then setting aside why the worst team in the league would be a buyer at the deadline instead of a seller..

we're still left with: wouldn't acquiring the Sedins and Ohlund probably push that worst team higher up in the draft order so they don't have the #1 pick? In fact, the team would be very incentivized to finish higher since they traded away their pick.

if u trade Sedin Sedin + Ohlund now... u would be getting the first overall anyways..

talk about overvaluing the first overall pick...would you trade this package for Stamkos? Kane? or Doughty?
