Poor Laviolette. He and Pat Quinn are the only two coaches (and pretty good ones) in the history of the NHL to have been replaced by the worst coach the NHL has ever seen.

How could you hire Paul Maurice BACK and not Bob Hartley?

Two pretty good coaches out there now in Laviolette and Tortorella. Both love offense and are part of the new NHL.
Coaches on the hot seat: Mactavish, Keenan, and I believe Tocchett is still interim.

Is there a team that inspires more indifference than the Hurricanes?
I bet this miss Cole.

He was actually here in Windsor as a student for business.
I bet the work load due to the strike drowned him and he was all over this

I always liked Paul Maurice as a person. And he isn't that bad a coach.

Why wouldn't you go with Torts? He knows the division well and his system would be perfect for the Canes.

Maurice brought them to the Cup finals didn't he?
I've never liked Rutherford, ever since he signed Irbe to a big contract and then sent him down to ECHL trying to get Irbe to waive his no trade clause. The word gets thrown around a lot on these forums, but in my humble opinion he can definitely be called classless. He should have been fired not Laviolette, who as far as I understand has been doing a decent job with the troops he's been given.

Maybe Hartley is waiting for an opening within the Canadiens organization...Possibly head coach
Edit: There you go...

Laviolette had nothing to work with. Heck I think he accomplished miracles with nothing. What are they thinking. Stupid move.
Leafs Fans must be happy Rutherford wasn't hired as Leafs GM now.

Disagree. He had plenty to work with, though definitely much more on the offensive side of things than on defense. Maurice has had nothing to work with.
Regardless, the Hurricanes have been playing for well over a year like the coach had completely lost them. Absolutely no work ethic or intensity. Their only sustained period of good play came last season when half the club was called up from the AHL.
He's a very good coach and I hope he gets picked up somewhere where the players will continue working hard for him. Whichever organization that is, they'll be rewarded.

Correct me if im wrong but isin't Laviolette the type of coach that will push the players to no end?
These type of coaches usully don't last more than 2-3 seasons. But still, the guy won in the AHL and in the NHL.
And he's a former D
get the checkbook out Bob!

Wait till Atlanta trades Kovalchuk...they will be the most meaningless franchise in pro sports. Even worse than the Detroit Lions. At least they had Barry.

I was in the lounge at Odette when he was there Monday! He was working on a group project with my friend.
