Well, if Kovalev were moved, discussion with Gillett beforehand would be in order.
Alternatively, I could imagine that following trades would require some discussion with Gillet:
1. Trade requires that a player in one-way deal would need to be sent to minors and he is expected to clear (Dandenault, Begin, Bouillon), increasing salary payroll.
2. Trading for player with backloaded contract (increasing salary payroll compared to the cap hit).
In both situations, Habs would have higher payroll than currently (and possibly higher than budjeted) and what would be better way for Gainy to convince Gillet than showing the player he is about to trade for?
But lets be more hopeful and wish they were checking out David Booth from Florida. We could really use someone who knows how to score.
Booth is the type of player Florida needs more of, so I doubt Martin is about to trade him. I'd love to get my hands on Keith Ballard but if we include the Gillett factor it could be the braintrust are looking at a trade and sign offer for JBo.
