Because the chinstrap might pop off? And they're giving out a replacement helmet? I would give replacement ear loops and chinstrap.

So would most of us, but RBK/CCM can take the hit, easily, and look like they really care about their customers in one fell swoop. It's like killing 2 birds with one stone: Replace the helmets and take an easily manageable hit (loss), and improve their image (Show they take safety seriously blah blah blah). The reputation benefits outwheigh any monetary loss from the recall.

So what does this say about HECC? Did they actually do the test? Or, did they just grab the helmet, put it on their head and say...Yep, it fits! Does this mean that HECC is a joke? Or, does this mean that RBK and CCM didn't get it certified and just put the almighty HECC seal on and called it good?

Says its only about a 1000 units. I think Reebok can take that hit, will prolly fix the old helmets and donate them to some inner city hockey program and get the tax write off.

It's probably something that has happened in a limited number of units, but they have to recall the whole run to be on the safe side.

Well, the alternatives are: paying for people to ship the helmet to them, have Reebok employees get paid to take them apart, replace the individual pieces, put them back together, and then pay to ship them back to the consumer, OR paying to send the pieces to their dealers, pay for their dealers' employees to take the helmets apart, replace the individual pieces, and put them back together. Reebok is probably right about even in cost if they just tell the dealers that they'll reimburse them for the replacements taken out of their own stock, as the manufacturing cost is likely a very small fraction of the end retail price. That also eliminates the possibility that some kid working at Ed's Hockey and Lawnmower shop in Flin-Flon, Manitoba replaces the parts incorrectly and someone breaks their head open and sues.
