Round 6: Worst Canadien in Recent History?

Matt Higgins takes home the six spot in a bit of a landslide.

I am booting Zarley Zalapski off the poll due to a lack of votes. He and our winner will be replaced by Andre Bashkirov and Pierre Sevigny, who were both on previously and got no votes, but people have asked for them back.

----

Worst Montreal Canadiens in Recent Memory
1. Patrick Traverse (26.44%)
2. Sergei Samsonov (24.14%)
3T. Mariusz Czerkawski (15.49%)
3T. Janne Niinimaa (15.49%)
5. Sergei Berezin (21%)
6. Matt Higgins (28.38%)
7. Juha Lind (14.71%)
8.
9.
10.

---

In honor of a recent thread with the best 100 Canadiens of all time, I am opening a poll to figure out the worst Montreal Canadien of recent history.

I did far more research than I would like to admit. So here is my criteria:

-Must have played between 1984-85 and today (IE: Koivu & Roy's current career span combined)
-Only Montreal stats, regular season, count.
-Must have played 20 or more games for Montreal.

Now, like the prospect polls, I will nominate 15 guys, but post more players here. In each poll "other" is an option. If other wins, then I will figure out who the heck was gathering those votes and redo that round with them in it.

I will post the list of nominees I came up with in full, including career Habs stats, in the subject thread.

My nominations are based on actual statistical badness, my own memory and in some cases, popular demand. The actual nominees will be at my discretion to start. Some people - O'Byrne - are solely on this list to demonstrate their relative stats and will not be in the poll unless there is truly popular demand.

Poll closes in one day.

Here is the list of people I considered.

The way I interpret this poll is to go systematically with the most hyped player and to compare expectations with his on ice performance. It seems that people here understand it the same way, by looking at the results. Next up has to be Murray Baron, for those very reasons.

Why is Murray Baron on that list? He could kick the attitude out of anyone he wanted.

Yeah, Samsonov for example was not one of the worst player on this list by any stretch. He is horrid, but it's definitely boiled into results vs expectations, I suspect.

Coz he came with a pretty good reputation and promptly became one of the worst pylons I've seen on D with the Habs, in Diduck and Simpson territory.

I went for Witehall. I love him for some strange, mildly awkward reason, but he was really useless.

Add Yves Racine
Add Robert Dirk (not enough games? He came in as an established player...)

Many of the guys on the list were goons or defencemen who should not have been expected to put up lots of points. You should not expect Mick Vukota to put up points.

I vote for Christian Laflamme. The habs got him during the period when they could not evaluate players and dumped their solid D (Ludwig, Desjardin, Schneider) for guys from other teams (Racine, Diduck, Lachance) who just looked terrible here. Laflamme was unable to stop anyone.

Racine is a good suggestion.

Robert Dirk played... let me say this for the 15th time since we started... THREE GAMES for Montreal. Three.

I don't think he makes the top 10 given some of the "talent" still available

I'd disagree, but honestly, I don't think either one is going to make it to the voting pool before we reach 10.
