You're right out of your mind if you think we'd actually see disciplinary actions taken against officials.

Come on now, they essentially are saying this by doing nothing but giving Scotty a phone call. It's probably about as clear as they can be about it without throwing their refs under the bus. I'm sure they are of the opinion that whoever the ref was that made that call is good at his job for the most part, and therefore they're not going to publicly throw him under the bus for not quite getting that one particular call right...and I for one can understand that.

Yup.

At least they didn't add insult to injury (figuratively speaking) by suspending Upshall for what should have been a 2 minute penalty at the most.
Yup.

The way I see it, this is the league saying to Upshall, "We aren't going to suspend you, because that hit was not a suspendable offense. However, since the referee made the call of boarding + misconduct, and that is the type of thing we are trying to crack down on, we are just calling to save some face and look like we maintain a constant level of discipline."

It's the wording from Upshall that pissed me off. Had I not read Scottie's quote, I probably wouldn't have talked about the hit again.

I didn't think the hit warranted a major penalty, nor did I think he should be suspended. However, if the league believes the hit was dangerous and Colin Campbell actually told Upshall so during their conversation, then I wish they backed it up with action. If the NHL didn't think the hit was dangerous, they shouldn't have told Upshall that it was, posturing or not.

I'm just sick of the NHL talking loudly and carrying a chopstick.

Did anyone call Adam Hall after he sucker punched Carter in the back of the head after he scored against Tampa? Oh, that's right, it wasn't even a penalty.

Yes but for whose show? I think I have not seen the league quoted on the play, all we have is Upshall's paraphrasing of the conversation, and my guess is that the conversation lasted a whole lot longer than the three or four sentences above.

If you (not speaking directly of you, BBox) are a hockey fan who wants the hits from behind to end, you're going to have to live with the mistakes of officials. It's that simple.

Everything about it amounts to nothing. Zero. Zilch. Donuts. Please for the love of god stop talking about it. It's not going anywhere and it's embarrassing.

I was at the game and from what I saw it shouldn't have even been a penalty. What a joke this is. Thank god they didn't suspended that would have been ridiculous.

no it was only a headshot to the leading goal scorer in the NHL and carter is such a beast it didn't hurt him. the refs rule on result as always, carter stays up and the rookie stays down and colins head is still up his a**

But the hit was not a headshot. Just because there was a head injury does not mean Upshall went for his head or made contact. The head got cut on the glass, not by Upshall's arms forcing them. Therefore, it is a standard boarding call, 2 minutes.

But what's done is done, Upshall isn't suspended, so all is good.

the guys head just didnt bounce the flyers way. it happens. its a 5 min major and game misconduct. but a suspension would have been laughable.

the flyers are gonna get called but its the non calls that get me riled. its bad enough in baseball where every ump has his own definition of a strikezone well you can figure that out but it seems each ref has different definitions for every penalty for every team. if campbell is going to be calling people it sould be to explain why theyre wasnt calls the rules say why there was.

So when is the last time he used the Upshall SMASH.

I think he is somewhat overdue. We could all use one right about now.
