Isn't a Gordie Howe hat trick when a player gets a goal, assist and fight in ONE period?

Lapierre's assist on Begin was in the first...Unless he got another assist, I may have missed it.

It was actually called a fight? I don't think a single punch was thrown.

Oh I thought it was just in one period alone, that's what I heard last year when Saku had an assist and a fight in the first period against Montreal, the announcers said he just needed a goal in that period to make a Gordie Howe hat trick.

My bad thou.

GO LAPIERRE GO!! hahaha

Great game from Laps. If he would play that way all year long he'd be a great 3rd liner.

3g 2a in hist last 6 games for Max.

That's very good for a 4th liner.

Amazing Fact about Gordie Howe Hat Trick: in his entire career, Gordie Howe only ONCE did it himself! It must have been something special when he did it that the name was coined even though he never did it again. Startling.

Close, but Gordie actually had TWO in his career. The story that GH only had one got spread a lot a couple of years ago because someone had posted it on Wikipedia, but the entry has since been corrected, with a quality source to back it up. Gordie had Gordie Howe Hat Tricks on:

-October 10, 1953 vs. the Leafs (fought Fern Flaman)

-March 21, 1954 vs. the Leafs again (fought Ted Kennedy)

You can read all about it here.

Way to go Laps! And his linemates!

He is playing out of his mind right now, actually, the whole 4th line is. Not that im complaining. Anytime your 4th line accumulates points like they are right now, it can only be a good thing.

Very interesting. Let's see if Lapierre can beat Gordie's record!

Lapierre always "fight" like that. More like hugging and take the other guy down.

Is it just me or Lappy and Begin are starting to look like hockey players? They used to be clumsy as Hell, making bone-head plays, trying to crash and bang but missing players, missing pucks, bad timing, etc...More importantly they both used to play like they didn't have line-mates. Lapierre especialy always did two plays: badly check somebody and then take the puck just skate fast into the other teams' zone and shoot on the goalie when there's no possibility to score. Now "Stop the Presses Batman!" he's starting to actualy make passes and make good plays(!!!). Who would have thought he had the brain cells to do that? I always thought he was a hard worker with a lot of speed but if the guy has developed a patience to make passes and so forth he might actualy have become REALLY useful.
