Are you joking? You can't get Luongo for the 1st overall pick.

There have been some pretty good offers for the 1st and 2nd overall picks for the '09 draft. However it should be noted that this draft looks completely solid 1-20, with 20-30 looking better than some of the top 10 drafted in other years. This draft has the chance to potentially compete with the great 2003 draft.

The Leafs provide an interesting scenario, as Brian Burke is known to be a wizard in the art of trades and could potentially trade Antropov, Kaberle, Kubina and Toskala in packages with other players, prospects, and picks for an additional 1st round pick and prospects. I'm not saying that they will all fetch a 1st round pick, but receiving two 1st rounders in '09 from playoff teams is definitely possible. From all this, the Leafs could have say the 6th overall pick from their finish in the standings, and the 17th and 26th picks from trades. Would you rather have those 3 picks or solely the 1st overall pick? Also, if the option arose of trading two of your picks (6 and 17) for the 1st overall pick, would you do it?

To all the idiots ripping my post about Luongo, this is a VALUE OF thread. This does not mean I see it as a good trade for either side. It would stupid to trade Luongo for anyone.

I'd potentially add SJ's 1st as well.

That's a pretty huge package, but I really want Hedman.
WOW, Leafs want to know where to sign, thats the worst proposal ive ever heard, top 3 offensive forward, top prospect, and 2 1st's, for one defensemen who has lost of potentially, but is generally an unknown

This pick now belongs to the Carolina Hurricanes...therefore, it will not be traded...unless Crosby or Ovechkin is on the table.

But I do think the pick will be traded, for a top line player, a top 5 pick, and a high level prospect.

Like I said in another post, the only way I would consider parting with the number 1 pick is if some team gave me an Eric Lindros type trade. Thats about it. It would have to be an extreme overpayment such as the Spezza trade mentioned earlier. If I was a GM I wouldn't take that trade though I would still want more.

If your team is bad enough to get the first pick, then you owe it to your fans to make that pick or get an extreme overpayment. Something like two top 6 forwards, a solid d man or goalie, and a 1st round pick. You obviously have problems if you are picking first, so you owe it to your fans to either bring in a young player they can talk about, or bring in lots of good players to totally revamp your team.

actually its not that lulongo straight up isnt fair...its just that the 1st overall 09 is worth more from Toronto's POV because theyalready have a pretty good goalie.

Toskala is over rated, and he isn't even rated that high.

Anyway, since the number one pick will be Tavares/Hedmen, it will take too much for most teams to give up. It would only hurt them in the long run

Murray perhaps could be talked into giving up Morrisson, Marchant and a 2nd for the 1st pick and a prospect like Matthias.
