OILERS SIGN KENNY SMITH & BROCK RADUNSKE

The Edmonton Oilers have announced the signings of defenceman Kenny Smith and left winger Brock Radunske. Smith, the captain of the Harvard University Crimson, was signed to a two-year contract, while Radunske signed a three-year deal.

Both Smith and Radunske were third round selections of the Oilers in the NHL Entry Draft. Smith, 6’2”, 215-pounds, was Edmonton’s fourth choice (3rd round), 84th overall, in the 2001 draft, while Radunske, 6’4”, 196-pounds, was selected in 2002 as the Oilers fifth choice (3rd round), 79th overall.

The 22-year-old Smith completed his senior season as the 108th captain of Harvard hockey, scoring 4-7-11 with 44 penalty minutes in 34 games. A strong, physical defenceman, Smith was a key component of Harvard’s specialty teams. He compiled career totals of 11-30-41 and 181 penalty minutes in 121 games with Harvard from 2000-01 to 2003-04.

Prior to attending Harvard, Smith played two seasons (1998-99 to 1999-00) with the U.S. National Team Development Program, where he captained the U.S. Under-17 team in 1998-99 and the U.S. Under-18 team in 1999-00. He was a member of Team USA at the inaugural World Under-18 Championships in Fussen, Germany in 1999-00, and helped the U.S. win the Five Nations Cup in the Czech Republic and the Three Nations Cup in Finland as a member of the Under-18 team.

Playing in all 42 games for Michigan State University in 2003-04, Radunske finished his third season as the Spartans’ fifth leading scorer, netting 22 points on 12 goals and 10 assists. The third-year forward plays a physical game, resulting in a career-high 60 penalty minutes, which placed him second on the Spartans. During his three seasons at Michigan State, Radunske scored 27-37-64 with 118 penalty minutes in 119 career games

You're about 40 seconds too late. This is old news already. Oiltalk just made the same thread a minute ago.
