When you pick up anyone that late in the draft and they do something for your team, it's a very good pick... whether or not all they are is a backup goaltender really is irrelevant.

Lynch did not have a great year his first as a pro in the ahl(depending on who you believe)
Who ever said Lynch didn't have a good first year as a pro is out-right lying to you. I watched him live 29 times, and on television 14 or 15 times... he had an absolutely fantastic season, and on top of that it was his rookie year. Even if it was his second or third year, it would have been a good year that should breed optimism.

Hemsky needs to start shooting more--He is compared to Hejduk--but man does he need to start shooting more.
He's still one of the few players in his draft actually playing in the NHL...

But suggesting either either Schremp ot Brodziak are home runs is a complete joke at this point in time.
True... I think you need to see how they play in the pros first before you grade them.

I think when Lowe drafted Markenen, he wasn't looking for a star goaltender of the future, he was looking for someone who can backup Salo. I also think that because he was drafted so late and and has fullfilled what their draft needs was at the time I would consider him to be a success... I would reserve the the home run label, but nothing less of successful.

I don't know where you've read this, but heck if had a terrible season last year then I would be looking forward to the years to come.

GP 74 G 11 A 25 Pts 36 (+/-): +10 PPG: 0.49

Not bad stats for a guy in his first year playing top d pairing.
Here's Carlos Colaiacovo (13th overall 2001) who I consider to be a pretty good draft pick during that year:

GP 62 G 6 A 25 Pts 31 (+/-) -15 PPG 0.50

IMO he's progressing quite nicely, in someways I think he's showing more promise then Woywitka.

Shooting will come with confidence, I think he'll realize sooner or later what he needs to be an elite player in the NHL

They may not be homeruns yet but ball has gone off the bat and it looks to be heading towards the bleachers.....

Schremp is a swing for the fence, time will tell if he's our best draft pick in the last 15 years.

Brodziak was drafted 214th and if the Oilers wanted to trade him tomorrow they could easily get a 2nd round pick for him. That's half as much as we got for Jochen Hecht so I'd say that's a home run.

Sorry Lowetide I don't know what I was thinking there. I didn't think you had Kyle on your list.

No worries. I'm starting to look forward to the Oiler's AHL team this season. Brodziak, Lynch, Woywikta, JDD, now Radunske and Smith. Here's hoping Rogers Sportsnet realizes how completely hockey mad this town is and runs about 40 RRunners games.
