Just beat me to it

I'm super excited to see this kid get a chance in the NHL and who knows, if he can even slightly hold his own maybe we can take Rozi out back and give him the Old Yeller treatment...

Excellent! I thought he was pretty solid in the preseason.

anyone else have the feeling this could be another Girardi situation where a defenseman gets called up early and sticks?

Would be awesome, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

It's funny in a sense, because I expect more from Potter than what I did when it was first announced Girardi was being called up. Girardi just completely blew my expectations away.

This is Great! He played well in the Preseason and this is a major opportunity to show what he has. I can't wait to see him play!

I think he would still count against the cap though.

DP still does, doesn't he?

This is going to be interesting if anything else. I hope he can turn into a Girardi type player, but then who will be get rid of once Redden is healthy?

EDIT: By the way, was he really a +33 at Hartford last season? That's pretty amazing

I like Potter a lot...

I think he's been a real surprise and has improved each season due to his hard work and dedication. My only issue with him has been his frame - which is pretty slight and he does rely on size to be successful in the AHL. It wasn't a problem at all in preseason and I thought he was one of the better defensemen during preseason. Let's hope he gets a chance to show what he's got.

Yes I do, I think he is a NHL ready Dman..........I hope he bumps Kalinin out even if Redden comes back soon. Rozi is not getting benched guys

Other thing to consider is, even if he plays well but the Rangers refuse to bump one of our top 6 (when healthy) for him this season, he could still largely earn his roster spot for next season now.

i think the rangers need to get rid of both redden and rosival... THIS YEAR. Redden maybe next year or over the offseason but i think that both need to go (redden most probably will not be traded though). They make up 12 mill in a cap that next year is decreasing. Plus we;d have 4 open defensive spots next year and 5 defensemen who can potentially be good in hte nhl. I'd imagine Sanguietti is one of them next year, Potter another, and then there is a toss up of Fahey, Del Zotto (depending if he's ready for hte nhl) and Weiss. 3 cheap players instead of 2 players that make up almost 1/4 of the cap. Cant wait to see how Potter does though, if he shows really good potential and does a better job than Rosival then i would really hope the rangers packaged rosi and some others for Kovalchuk or Gaborik or Spezza (all 3 now available at the deadline for the best deal)

Was this an easy call for the Rangers brass, bringing up Potter instead of Sangs?

Potter had a much stronger pre-season than Sangs did. I doubt it was a touch call.

They need to let Sanguinetti develop..........Potter is the no brainer......I think Sauer is still higher on depth chart than Sangs right now but that is not a bad thing. they should take their time with him and Del Zotto..........Fahey is an option if they need a another , more of a veteran AHLer

yep........I think he will replace Kalinin either this yr or next

not sure why people don't see my pt. about Kalinen.......I think he has played pretty good too but he makes 2 million and they NEEEED to fit in a scoring forward so it only makes sense to move him and let Potter play and then move Prucha once he gets his value up

A team like Edmonton may be willing to do a deal like Cole ,Smid for Prucha, Dawes, Kalinen

Very easy call.

Right now the defensive depth chart as for re-calls is:

1. Corey Potter

2. Brian Fahey

3. Michael Sauer

4. Bobby Sanguinetti

Hartford is HUGE on players doing their time. Minimum ONE season in Hartford if not more.

As for Potter, definetly hoping he can impress the Rangers brass enough to consider attempting to deal Redden or Rozsival.

Redden will count against the cap unless the Rangers put him on the Long-term IR. The fishsticks didn't put DP on the LTIR.

I think that Potter could be another Girardi in the making, but not as good. Girardi has blown out my expectations for him and I was a huge advocate for the kid while he was in the AHL and first brought up to the big club. I think Potter has the ability to be a solid 4-5 guy.

It would be nice if he excelled as girardi did, because it would make one of the Rangers other D expendable down the line, whether it be at the trade deadline or in the offseason.

I think that's what we are all hoping for. From the preseason, he seemed like he was good and ready for the NHL. I guess we find out tomorrow.

I'd even put Denisov ahead of Sanguinetti right now. That's now not ready Sanguinetti is.
