Deslauriers no WJC invite?!?!

I have a question in regards to the team Canada WJ team i saw there invitations list and under the goalies Dubnyk was invited but Deslauriers wasn't! whats the deal ? he just missed the cut last year. I was looking forward to a 1-2 punch of Deslauriers and Dubnyk as Canada's goalies

Last year was his last chance. When JDD didn't make the junior team in 2002-03, they said there's next year. Well "next year" he didn't make it either. I really believe there's a lot of politics involved. It seems only junior players drafted by the Flames actually make the junior team out of the 6 Canadian teams. The cutoff age for the WJHC is 19.

Too old. Players have to be born in 1985 or later to be on the junior team.

Deslauriers has now turned pro and therefore ineligible for junior competition.

Umm, there have been several pros who have played in the WJC. Fleury last year, for example. I believe it is only the NCAA which has that rule.

The problem is that it is the world under 20 hockey championship, and Jeff Deslauriers is no longer under 20.

So, which eligible Canadian Oilers didn't get an invite?

Zach Stortini, JF Jacques, Troy Bodie, Liam Reddox (not sure why after his performance at the under-18's), Bryan Young, Max Gordichuk, Stephane Goulet, Tyler Spurgeon,

interesting theory. I'm a little bored today so I thought I'd look this up

if you look at the last 5 Junior teams (and I may have made a quick mistake or two)
there were
1. 9 Maple Leaf draftees (including Boyes,Colaiocovo twice each)
2. 4 Canadien draftees
2. 4 Flames draftees (including Stoll twice. Kobasew and Phaneuf the others)
4. 2 Sens draftees
5. 1 Canuck draftee
6. O Oiler draftees (althought ultimately a number of players are now obviously Oilers-Stoll,Woywitka,Torres etc)

so the Flames do well (although probably deserved, unless you guys are questioning the Stoll picks now ), but it's the Leafs that dear lord make out like bandits (The Wellwoods, Harrisons, Whites of the world)

Calm down, he's too old like everyone else is telling you, you guys should know stuff like this. Now for those of you who are talking politics I will say this: I believe that it's politics in it in the sense that they always seem to try and take one French Canadian goaltender and one non French Canadian goaltender. JDD got caught by MA Fleury. JDD I think is clearly a better goaltender then Josh Harding(nothing against Harding)and I think we all know that JDD, Harding, and Cam Ward were all better then David Lenevneau(SP?)in 03. That pick was one of the worst choices ever for a World Junior team in my eyes.

depends on what you mean by cut-off...

It's an under 20 tournament, meaning the players have to be under the age of 20... I've seen the cut-off age referred to both 19 and 20, depending on how you are talking about it.
