Because both are slick playmaking centres who also make a significant defensive contribution? Note that when making the comparison I specified that it would have been more hypothetically apropos had Datsyuk never made the transition to the NHL.

The information was presented as a rumour.

Now Sport-Express have picked up on the rumour, citing La Presse as their source and claiming to have gotten confirmation that the offer was tendered from Zinoviev's agent: http://www.sport-express.ru/art.shtml?170725

Maybe it's the agent using the Habs get more attention to his player, maybe to scare his KHL team to give in to their demands? Habs have been used like that before.

Russian friend of mine said most teams have ties to illegal, mob activity. Its not the first time I hear about it, some questionable things happen over there...

anybody listen to McGuire on the team 990 this afternoon?

He was talking about the Habs and Zinovjev. Im not sure what he was implying, but he did say the big story tomorrow should be this (if he was a reporter in Montreal- he said he would ask Markov what he thinks because they played together at the Worlds)

Also called him a "world class talent" and that he is very skilled. Also that he only left the NHL due to money issues playing in the AHL.

Im not sure why he is a week late on this, or if he knows something we dont.

I wish we got him, but honestly I see him ending up in Atlanta before he ends up here.

Which is why I said I can see him land in Atlanta...
Unless....

WE manage somehow to land Kovalchuk by some act of Hockey God, and then Zinoviev would come here because his comrads Markov and Ilya would be here with a BAD ASS training facility. Oh yes, Watch out, the Red Army of Three shall Have at thee!

Salary cap.

But if the guy wants to win, he'll come here.

I like McGuire....but I will always take with a grain of salt his "reports" about the talent in Russia....not really sure he has seen them play lately especially with his reports on Alexei "one of the best player outside of the NHL" Emelin....

More like pot head (Zinovjev was ousted from a national team once due to testing positive for marijuana - he said it was a lie made up to get him off the team due to politics or something)

No no...he said "the best defenseman not playing in the NHL, including Victor Hedman".

I don't know wtf he's smoking to come up with something so absurd but yeah, he said it...

I didn't remember exactly but it still doesn't make any sense whatsoever. And it's not a question of an opinion versus another one....the guy is playing on the 3rd pairing of his team, not invited for tournaments, doesn't have any offensive stats.....And then, you see him play and you're wondering what's happening to him.

Like somebody has said and like I also think, the only factor I would think makes him play that way is that he's just waiting for his contract to end, has no motivation and is just thinking to come over.

Wow... Sign him, offer Kovalev-Plekanec and Latendresse to Atlanta for Kovalchuk and this is my line-up for thursday:

Tanguay - Zinovjev - Kovalchuck
Andrei K - Koivu - D’Agostini
Sergei K - Lang - Higgins
Bégin - Lapierre-Kosto

Grease Lightning!

Hey this fantasy hockey fan-board thing is getting to me!

I'll admit that's a pretty ****ed up lineup. However, even if the trade really happens, how do you know if Zinovjev can really be a No1 center at the NHL level? Kovy is a right winger by the way also, but imagine our powerplay !!

Tanguay-Koivu-AKost

Kovy-Markov

Thought I would bring back an old thread...

This guy signed with Ufa of the KHL so we can rule him out.
