If Kovalchuk goes to Montreal, I expect Higgins to go the other way.
I also expect Kovalchuk won't be only player Atlanta trades. Names they could throw in could be Williams, Perrin, Thorburn, Exelby...or they could go crazy and throw in Pavelec to get Halak plus another player.
DW has said he doesn't want to be the man that trades Kovalchuk...he and Ilya have a special and long standing relationship and a lot of trust in each other. If Waddel pulls the trigger, he will expand the deal to lessen the blow and make this all about "Blowing Up the Team" rather than seemingly getting rid of Kovalchuk for yet another rebuild.
Whichever team gets Kovy gets him for 1.75 years at good money, and an excellent chance of re-signing him (if things go well he won't want to leave Montreal).
I hope so brother, like i mentioned in the trade board, I think Kovalchuk is the perfect player for Montreal. He just brings it every night, Im sure thats perfect for any team but the Habs being as big as they are here, he will be a living god if he keeps wanting to win the way he does.
DW might not want to trade him (who would) but if he has a strong relationship with Kovy, then I expect him to understand the situation and help him be moved to a team that will show him the same kind of importance the Thrashers have, with a good return.
Atlanta has Enstrom, Bogosian, Valabik, Oystrick, and Kulda for young defensemen that could all start next year. We don't need defensemen.
As for Waddell being "sympathetic" towards trading guys to a good team...see how he traded Heatley to Ottawa, the perfect situation for him, as well as the home area of Dan Snyder's family. DW would only trade Kovy where he'd like to go (if not MTL, then NYR, btw).
He was asked by Thrashers commentators how he liked being in New York this week and said "I always love it here, I went to Brooklyn and bought my daughter some comics".

Why do you hate on Bruce? He claims "Multiple Sources say bla bla bla" obviously he's been lurking on this forum... many people have been saying we need Koval, so... we invent, he officializes...
Haha damn I miss the Ottawa Sun (I'm originally from there)!
But I was just looking for a star
Many here would love Kovachuk in a Habs jersey
The reason I saw MTL has a good trading partners if their where a deal to be strick is;
the habs have a lot of depth in most position(center??)
Atlanta looks to be still in rebuilt mode.
Kovalchuk well you know, could get a realy good return.
Gainey: Hey, I'd like Kovalchuck
Waddel: What do you have to offer?
Gainey: Here's the menu, pick?
Waddel: I'll take the K bros., Komi and your 1st
Gainey:Can you throw in Exelby?
Waddel: That will cost you another pick.
Gainey:Ok!
Waddel: Ahhh, ohhh, let me think about it a bit more. I'll get back to you.
Sound like a plausible conversation?
ROFL no?
Ilya Kovalchuk ATL L 26 9 17 26
He's not worth that right now. You're trading our second best defenseman .2 Good young Rookie and a first round pick for someone with 9 goal in 26 match?Do you want to be the next Atlanta?AKA at the bottom of the standing?
Plus we're talking about a rental .Plus the salary he ask for .. It's an impposible trade.
