I'm Gainey for 5 min...

1- I try to get Oilers' first round pick offering them S.Kostitsyn.. I think we have enough young small skilled wingers on the team for a year where there is alot of pressure to win the cup.. and next draft is in MTL, so having a high draft pick would be amazing.. Dont tell me Andrei Would cry and leave for Russia, they took a very opposite way to get in the NHL and I dont think thats something that would disturb their life so much.. Our line-up would still look solid and Paccioretty could get a call up at some point to make our team tougher if needed..

2- When the season end, I contact Perezhogin's agent and offer him the possibility to come back, I do everything possible to work on a deal.. I would even take the risk to give him 7 millions for 2 years, or 3,5 for 1 year.. The risk isnt big, I give him the opportunity to establish his real value in the NHL, on the other side I give us the opportunity to bring back a beautiful hockey talent that never reached his full potential in the NHL, a guy who after all those years, could finally blossom and become the player we thought he would become.. With a pretty young core of fowards, I think Perez wouldnt take long to feel confortable..

3- The only UFAs I resign are Komisarek and Koivu unless Perez stay at home, then I try to resign Tanguay, not over 5 millions.. About 10 millions saved (Kovalev, Tanguay, Brisebois, Dandy, Begin)

4- I would try hard to sign the best defenseman on the UFA market.. Jay Bouwmeester, I would make him an offer he cant refuse.. If not, there are other pretty interesting guys on the market.. with a strong D, it will be easier for Carbo to work with our young fowards, the competition between them will be sane, no more prima dona like Kovalev to give the bad exemple, everyone will have to push in the same direction..

5-I resign my RFA's

So the line-up for this year:

A.Kost Koivu DAgo

Latendresse\Kosto Plekanec Tanguay

Higgins Lang Kovalev

Begin Lapierre Laraque\Kosto

I still can call up Max Pac later on the season in case of injuries or to make this team stronger on the top lines.. Im pretty sure Paccioretty would be welcome by everyone when comes time to face big skilled teams like Boston, San Jose..

Next year:

Kostitsyn Plekanec Max Pac

Perezhogin Koivu D'AGostini

Higgins Chipchura Latendresse

Stewart Lapierre Kosto\Laraque

Markov Komisarek

Jay Bo Hamrlik

Gorges OByrne

You mean you resign as GM and check into a mental institute?

But actually you're not that crazy trading to get Edmonton's first pick, cause it could end up being very high, but not for S. Kostitsyn please! Maybe he's sucking now, but as people would say, he's shown some flashes of brilliance, and can become a heck of a player if we let him develop properly.

Perezhogin no thanks.

I don't think there's any chance we'll ever see Perezhogin in Canadiens shirt. He went home because he felt he was mistreated by this organization and was offered good money for playing in the (then) Russian Super League. Now he's a star there, if I'm not mistaking, even the top goal scorer in the KHL. Why would he throw it all away to go back to a team, that he probably still has a chip on his shoulder against? The Habs still have the same coach and the same GM, from his point of view nothing has changed. I can't see Gainey doing something as stupid as promising him top line play time or anything. My guess is that he'll probably never go back to NHL, and if he does - certainly not with the current Canadiens organization. For the money he might be asking, I don't think Gainey and Carbo want him here either.

A better solution is if some of you become Kovalev for 5 min.

As for me, i'd rather become Dion Phaneuf for 5 min.

On a serious note, i'd rather have our next year line up like this:

AK46 - BIG C - SK74
Higgins - Plek - Tanguay
Pacioretty - Koivu - D'Agostini
Lapierre/Lats - Chipchura - Laraque/Lats

Markov - ???
Hamrlik - Komi
Gorges - Weber

Price
???

However, i'd like Kovy to be back.

If you guys regretted losing Beauchmin/Hainsey/Ribeiro, wait till Sergei goes elsewhere.

We're going to regret losing this guy like no other.

Sergei isn't going to be traded. He's been benched for a few games but it's not the end of the world. He needs to mature a little bit and that will come with age.

If Hab fans (this isn't directed to anyone in particular) would just watch and follow other teams in the NHL then maybe they would understand that the stuff that is happening to our team and with the players HAPPENS TO EVERY TEAM. Young players get sent to the pressbox, it happens.

Just remember for all you would be Gainey's,, some habs players will need a big raise for next year. Anytime you think about trading away something good to get something good, you had better think about who is going to cost what.
We all know Dandy is now too expensive, Begin also, Boullion also, Lang also and what of next year?
Will Higgins be too expensive? Pleks? Komi? Kovalev?.
So throw all those names on your desk before you start thinking about a trade.

He got into a cross-cheching-in-the-face brawl with a guy in the AHL, sent the guy to the hospital, got suspended for an insane amount of time so he went west.

I don't think Edmonton will end up as bad as you may think, their pick very well could be just a few spots closer to the top than the Habs

This all depends on how your team signings went in the first place.
What makes you think Kovy is a Prima Dona?

5-I resign my RFA's

You don't say

2 of the top 6 are rookie players? Nice going, even better, Perez is in the top 6 as well, you rock! 3rd line center is a rookie as well....and another rookie on the 4th.

I think people are a little hard on you. You do have a few major things to iron out, but I really like the idea of the Habs having a good pick on draft day...

BTW Perezhogin is doing well.. Second on his team in Pts. But 3.5M a season is a little high. I'd give him 2.5...

That's kind of what happened, but that was before the lockout and he was suspended for the entire lockout year. He played 2 seasons here before bailing on the team to go back home.
