Hollywood

A good buddy of mine was coming back from an Improv night in Hollywood and he got attacked from behind. Somebody came up and hit him in the head. And, then when he was down on the ground they robbed him. My friend is going to be OK, but his face is all cut up and his eye is hemorrhaging.

This is the second terrible incident to happen to a friend in that part of town during the last few weeks.

My advice to all of you - stay the freak out of Hollywood. That part of town was always dicey but it is just going downhill in a hurry lately.

That place is a plague. They should torch it to the ground and rebuild it.

Man, I'm angry about this.

I used to watch hockey games in a sports bar down there all the time. But, I will never, never again step foot there.

Riseandfall was shot in Hollywood. I've been in 5+ fights down there. Not only are the people who frequent down there douches, but so are the cops.

In some ways, it feels more dangerous there since it started getting trendy and they put in lofts and stuff. Now, you have this mix of meth addicts and prostitues with yuppies and tourists.

Yeah, well I hope that all you guys (most of whom I consider to be friends) will be smart and stay the heck out of that place. I'm somebody who survived a war, and even I am not dumb enough to go down there again.

So, you're saying that we should stip Jason down, superglue some dollars to him and our goalie situation is solved?

First off, Darth, I hope your friend is okay.

My favorite story about Hollywood whenever anyone out here says "Oh, Hollywood must be so glamorous..." is about the time in 1990 when I worked at this 11-watt radio station on Sunset. I parked out on the street and noticed this dude leaning on the building. I didn't think much of it until I noticed him wincing and seeming to be in a bit of pain. You wanna know why? Dude was dropping a doogan right there on the sidewalk. The capper was the fact that there was no Charmin handy so he grabbed the next best thing... the Times. At least he got something right.

One time when I was like 14, I saw a homeless guy aggressively washing his weiner in the middle of the sidewalk. I think that was in Hollywood.

What are you guys talking about? Hollywood is all just movie stars walking around and high class clubs, restaurants, and shops. I mean they make MOVIES there, it must be great, right? Don't ruin the rest of the world's view of Hollywood.

Yeah, the hot dogs from the street vendors there do look dirty.

I think it is more about a big giant reality show than movies.

Somehow, during the Gretzky-in-LA days, I thought that things had changed. It just seemed like everything was glitzy and on the mend.

Anyway, I heard from my friend last night. His entire face is numb and his eye is filled with blood. So, I really don't know if he will be alright in the end. I'm worried about him, that is for sure.

I'm surprised nobody has requested a police report number, news article or verification of the hospital your friend was taken too. A guy who posts here got shot in Hollywood and there were a handful of a-holes around here asking for proof that it happened.

Sorry to read of your friend's misfortune and hopefully he is ok. I rarely go to Hollywood unless there is a concert or something there.

In other crime news, I live in Belmont Shore and somebody got murdered outside of Yankee Doodles last week. I live like a block from there.. if that.

I hope you friend heals quick and is not permanently injured.

Hollywood has no attraction to me. Gangs run the drug trade up there (as they do everywhere else) and the streets are filled with addicts, thieves, hookers and scoundrels (far worse than Darcy Tucker). There is just no reason to go there, unless I'm speeding through on my way to the rink in Burbank.

And from reading the horror stories on this board and elsewhere, to quote Springsteen:
"... Its a death trap, a suicide rap..."

In life, sometimes the easiest lessons learned are the ones we can pick up from others, in this case its STAY THE F AWAY FROM HOLLYWOOD!

Again, hope your friend is O.k.

I heard about that too. I was shocked because that is such an upscale part of the city. But, I guess crazy stuff can go down anywhere.

That must still be a pretty nice place to live though. So much fun stuff within a short walk.

And, I don't find many "a-holes" on the Kings board. Just a great bunch of posters - many of whom I consider to be good friends.

Without taking this thread too far south, I guess the answer to that question is . . . it depends where its been!
